What have you forgotten or left ON the ship?

I'm actually notorious for leaving things behind on cruise ships, hotels.. really anyplace where I vacation.

In a really terrible villa my family rented in the Bahamas one summer, I managed to leave a bracelet and two nice rings that were actually my mother's. :( Luckily she didn't really care for them and she has more rings than she has fingers for :P

On cruises I've left shoes, jewelry, socks, sunblock & lotions, etc etc.

On tour in China, I left my passport in an airplane. I don't recommend that one.

Hotel in Gainesville, I left a whole crapload of stuff, but luckily one of my classmates saw it and saved it for me. Whew!

LAst cruise, we brought my daughter's expandible bed rail with us, since she had a really bad habit of fallilng out of bed. And, you guessed, it, no sooner are we off the ship and through customs, than we remembered--ugghhhhhh, the bed rail is still on the bed in the cabin. So--when we got home that night, she slept with a dining room chair next to her bed so wouldn't fall out!

A few years ago, BEFORE the kids, Dh left an entire garment bag in the terminal. You know, you get off the ship and begin the mad hunt to find all of your luggage among the thousands of suitcases. Well--he didn't even pick up the garment bag. Since it contained ONLY his suits, it was 100% his responsiblity to carry it. After we were home, he asked, "Hey, where is my garment bag--where'd you put it?" Riiiiggghht...

He quickly realized that he had NEVER even retrieved it. After several phone calls, and $50 in delivery charges later, he got "his" garment bag back.

Silly husbands!

Last April we did the Disney Land/Sea. My DS 15 left his toiletry bag at the Polynesian. On the cruise I felt bad for him and bought him expensive cologne. He leaves that and we arrive at the port to the missing bag from the Polynesian.

The other day he says to me he promises not to leave any colonge the next trip in April. We'll see!

I read about this on another site and I'm going to do it on our next cruise. They suggested labeling your posessions with peel and stick labels containing your name, cabin number and maybe your cell phone when you cruise. That way maybe some good samaritan will return that camera you left on the lounge chair or that book you hadn't finished yet. I figure it couldn't hurt !

BTW, I once left a down pillow in a hotel room. Of course nobody knew nothin' when I called. I was really bummed out about losing a gorgeous cutwork pillow case. Now if I take a pillow when we travel I always take a colored pillow case so I will notice it on the bed. Live and learn!

My 16 year old daughter left her iPod at the hotel that we stayed at the night before our cruise. She realized it as we were going through the embarkation process. I called the hotel, they found it, put it in an envelope, and we retrieved it from the hotel after the cruise.

As to what I left on the ship: hope. I think I need to get back on soon!

On our last cruise, we had written down several e-mail addresses and phone numbers from tablemates. We wrote them on one of the 'Carnival Capers' and had purposely put it beside the luggage so we wouldn't forget it. Well, the room steward tried to throw it away on the last morning, so I put it on top of the TV.........where it stayed...............as we exited the room and left the ship...............

I left my purse, and all contents in the closet. I had stuck it up there after we boarded, and as I had my DL in hand after check in didn't think about it once during the cruise. As we left I guess between the kids, carry off stuff and not having toted it for a week I didn't notice not having it. As we were entering the "luggage room" an officer from Carnival was standing there. He addressed me by name, and asked if I was missing anything, I said No, he smiled and handed me my purse. God only knows how long he waited there (we were on the Riviera Deck so we were some of the last off the ship), but bless him and Komong, my cabin steward, maybe I should have mentioned leaving Komong behind...they were great about the purse though.

This was actually the day I was going to the cruise. I had stayed at a hotel over night after my wedding...

Well, as I was about to leave I realized I had left my wedding veil. My mother went looking for it, but it wasn't in the room, and no one knew a thing about it. Well as she was in the elevator, by chance, the maid was also. She saw the trash bin had something sticking out... it was my veil!! She immediately asked where she found it and pulled it out.

The woman had ripped up the veil before placing it in the bin!!! What the he** was she thinking!! I had only left my room 15 minutes prior, and already it was not only trashed, but destroyed! She had no explanation for what she did. But I was very depressed. It was a special part of my day that was gone... the hotel reimbursed us, but I still am saddened by this very strange event.

I had to take off my fannie pack and put it through the x-ray machine along with our carry-ons. Needless to say, all our money and credit cards were in my fannie pack. After everything came through the machine, I grabbed it and proceeded with the escort to the gangway. Right before we boarded the ship, I exclaimed "Holy S***!!!" I suddenly realized that I didn''t have my fannie pack. You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I told her. I was horrified. I sprinted all the way back through the cruise terminal, passed the military men with machine guns, all the way back to the x-ray machine. I informed security that I lost my fannie pack and asked if it was returned. They said they didn't know. I was in a state of panic, and needless to say, security and the military police thought I was crazy. I explained what happened, but at this time I thought our vacation was over before it started. In a last ditich effort, I asked security to stop the x-ray machine and look inside to see if my fannie pack may have become stuck on something, never making it through. Sure enough, my fannie pack strap git hung up inside the machine.

SERVES YOU RIGHT FOR WEARING A 'FANNIE PACK'

We always leave the paper back books we bring along to read during the cruise and give them to our room steward. On a cruise a long time ago, we saw our room steward in one of the ports buying soap and shampoo in one of the local shops -- very expensive compared to what we buy them for in Walmart. Ever since, I always pack a couple bars of soap and shampoo/conditioner and leave it for the room steward. I just tell him/her that I have bought too many souveniers and have no room left in my luggage.

That's a great idea.

We had 2 "left items", both from the same cruise. My DH left our camcorder in our friend's car as we got out our numerous suitcases etc. This was our kids 1st cruise and we hadn't told them about it. We were going to surprise them at embarkation. I was thinking that we wouldn't get to record their reactions once they found out. Fortunately, our friend who had driven us to the port saw the camcorder in time, and being a cop, talked his way into the port to get the camera to us before we told the kids. Later in the cruise, we bought about $200.00 worth of chocolate in St. Maartin to bring home as gifts to family and the friends who had minded our house while we were away. Dh thought I packed it, and I thought he had packed it, so it got left behind in the fridge of the cabin. the funny thing is that 4 months later a friend was going on a cruise, stopping in St. Maartin, so I gave her some money to buy more chocolate. I was going to give it to DH for Valentines day. She left it in her cabin fridge also! I guess the chocolate was not meant to be!

Yeah...likely story! I have to remember to use that one. "Gee, dear (munch, munch) I must have left the chocolates in the fridge! Yeah, that's it! (wiping my chocolatey face with my sleeve), oh DARNIT!" :D

Hi Kim

Remember us from the Jewel? Bored with TV tonight, so started searching the boards. Have you been any other cruises yet?

Since I joined the thread, I should come up with an answer. The only thing we ever lost was two pairs of trainers packed at the top of an unlocked holdall. Never reported it to RCCL though.

LOL..Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

Jeanette, of course I remember you! You were on the camcorder/chocolate debacle with us. We are looking into a 11 night ultimate caribbean on Celebrity next Feb. The fund took a major hit this year because we bought a puppy! He is certainly worth the delay though! How about you, any upcoming plans? I read that you have gone fairly recently..so jealous of you guys who can travel so much!
