BigGuy25 Posted February 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Would someone give me the phonetic pronunciation for both Oia and Fira? Thanks!!
pj-atsea Posted February 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Some can correct me if I am wrong but I believe Oia is pronounced like EEYA and Fira is pronounced pretty much how it looks FEERA. At least that was the way people said it when we were there. pj
texancruzer Posted February 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Oia = EEE - ah From Wikipedia: Firá (Modern Greek: Φηρά) is the modern capital of the Greek Aegean island, Santorini. It is a traditional settlement.[1] "Firá", actually, is a different pronunciation of "Thira", the ancient name of the island itself. Everyone just said Fear-a Hope this helps. ny4cruise Posted March 1, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2010 OIA is pronounced “EEA” as the first two letters of the word OIA (OI) is a diphthong and it’s pronounced as EE. FIRA is pronounced “FEERA” with the tone at the end.
