If we are booked on a 1 stop flight, with the same airline, with a 1 1/2 hr. layover and the first flight lands too late, what should we expect? We have always been lucky eonough to fly non stop. We live in NYC and are lookin at Heathrow with a change of plane in Iceland. Thanks in advance, P&L

Which airline ?

Only one airline that does that - Icelandic.

That said P&Lcruising if you miss the first flight you are stuck in the airport until the next flight to Heathrow. Keep in mind Icelandic as a no frills airline don't forget to pack a meal if you are in coach. Least room of any carrier. That is why we elected to book Virgin non stop for $50 more.

Time2, thank you for all the great info you have provided so many of us, Liz and I greatly appreciate it. We have not joined the roll call yet, as we have reservations for both the Epic TA and the Jewel out of NYC for early June at an awesome price. Airfare has been a big part of our decision which to pick as we live 1 hr. from the port in Manhattan and have friends who would easliy drop us off. The airfare could be equal to our entire on board expenses and DSC. We have seen no good prices on non stops, and the best price we have found is on Icelandair with the one stop. If the first leg of the flight is late, what should we expect as far as Icelandair getting us on to LHR. Like you we live close to major NYC airports and have always flied non stop in the past. We would be arriving 1 day early, and have a room at the Holiday Inn right next to the pier. Thanks again!

Email the epicmadhatters below lots of ideas on airfare. At least 5 non stop options at $425. If you are already booked and miss the 7:40 am there is a 4:10 to LHR. You can still catch a coach to Southampton.

This probably doesn't mean anything to you but we are flying out of New York to LHR via iceland as well. I went to their website to book our flights and discovered that you can stay over for up to 72 hours without an extra charge. So we are overnighting in Reykjavik and going to the Blue Lagoon hoping to alleviate as much jet lag as possible.

If you haven't already booked, on some days you can fly for as little as 333 a person at the moment. We got the $356 pp fare; still pretty good I think.

What you can expect is that Icelandair is going to do its best to get you on its next flight to Heathrow. Check their schedule to see when that might be and if it presents more problems, reconsider the cost of a non-stop flight. Where is your ship sailing from? Have you also considered the distance from Heathrow to the port and the cost of the transfers involved? Did you consider booking your air through the cruiseline? Sometimes they actually can offer you bargain rates. It isn't always the case but on occasion it is and is worth checking. Also consider that the cruiseline air will also include transfers from the airport to the port and may even add transportation from your hotel to the ship as part of the basic airfare. I always recommend checking out all your options before you decide how to book your air.:)
