willy32465 Posted March 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2010 Just wondering if there is still a live jazz band playing in the lounges on The Miracle. We were on The Miracle in May 2009 and they did. We are going this May also and we really enjoyed listening to the band before dinner. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
nybumpkin Posted March 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Most of the ships have done away with the jazz trios - I know there wasn't one on Miracle when we sailed last July, and there wasn't one on Conquest the week before last. Instead, the ship's orchestra on both cruises offered some jazz performances a couple of times.

We really enjoy the live musicians before dinner with our martinis. Enjoy your cruise in July. Hoping to go on The Pride next cruise if the casino can be good to us again so we can make that a reality sooner rather than later.

The jazz trios have been replaced pretty universally by groups that play salsa. I've bemoaned this fact and the res pose I get is that salsa is way more popular than jazz so they go with the market. I agree... I love sitting in a dark lounge, smoking a cigar, sipping some good scotch and listening to jazz... :(
Traveler353 Posted March 2, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Last December on the Triumph they had a great Cuban Jazz band that played in the Cigar Bar (and yes contrary to rumors you can still smoke cigars in the Cigar Bar) every night. They were a stand along band not made up of members of the Carnival house bands.

The one exception was Glory - the Ivory Club did not allow cigars, and the only place for a cigar was the sports bar. Two weeks ago on Conquest, there were plenty of cigars in Alfred's - but that's also where the Latin band was playing, so we skipped it. Just not our type of music.:(

But people are always starting rumors here that no cigar smoking is allowed in the cigar bars anymore. Specificaly someone stated on several threads that no cigar smoking was allowed in the Triumph Cigar bar. That is why I said what I said. I don't smoke cigs but I do enjoy a good cigar once in a while.

Same as my DH, and I'm happy to sit with him in the cigar bar and enjoy a scotch or brandy while he enjoys his cigar and diet Coke. No cigars on this last cruise, though.
