beamer101 Posted March 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2010 We are on the Jade later this month and have a question for you wiley, experienced cruisers out there. Is there a fee for cashing travelers cheques on board the ship? We are not concerned about exchange rates etc, but just want to know if we wander up to the front desk with a $100 TC, will we leave with $100 cash? Thanks
NJ Johnny Posted March 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2010 We always cashed our traveler's checks at the casino window - no fee and no problems.

No fee involved. When we've wanted cash for casino gambling we've cashed them at the cashier's cage in the casino. No fee involved.
thecook Posted March 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2010 I was wondering if anyone has ever cashed travelers checks and asked to be paid in 100 dollar bills. We have to pay cash for a tour and would like to be able to cash in $500 worth of checks for large bills the day of the tour...thanks in advance for any infomation you can give =D
garycarla Posted March 2, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Just a reminder, there is safe in the cabin if you take cash and do not want to carry it around. We usually take 2-3,000 in cash and put the extra there.
thecook Posted March 2, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Thanks..I do know that there is a safe, but we are traveling overseas with a 3 day stay in London before boarding the ship. I hate to think about carrying that much money for that peroid of time.
ashelsi Posted March 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Do the ships have currency exchange on the ship? For example I will be on the Gem this summer and we will be stopping in Greece, Croatia and Turkey all of which use different currency. Will I be able to cash my travelers cheques for each of these currencies on board? Thanks!

We are on the 4/24 sailing of the Gem to Greece and are wondering what the latest is on NCL exchanging travelers checks for Euros. (Before everyone starts posting about ATMs in Europe giving a better exchange rate, we are taking some tours that leave immediately from the port and we dont have time to be looking for an ATM. We are also staying in some small hotels in Europe before the cruise that do not have a safe and I dont want to be walking around with that much cash)

You may cash travelers checks at the Reception Desk. Currency exchange, at prevailing rates, is available on some cruises. Travelers checks and most major credit cards are accepted in the ports we visit. Proper ID is required when cashing travelers checks. We recommend you carry a small amount of local currency when visiting foreign ports, although credit cards are commonly accepted in shops and restaurants. I would hope that our cruises on the Gem would be "some" of the cruises that do offer exchange.

I would hope so too because I have recently heard from several tour operators and restaurants in Greece that they now want Euros Cash and are no longer taking credit cards. I spoke to my PCC today and he said that the Gem will be exchanging for Euros but in small amounts. Although, he didnt know the answer to how small the amounts would be. thecook Posted March 4, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2010 We are taking two private tours..one in Russia and one in Germany. Both companies require payment in cash. They will take U.S. Dollars or their native currency. That is why I want to cash travelers checks for 100 dollar bills on the ship.
