Cunard Smoking policy amended

I spy something that looks horribly like my pet. Please tell me I'm wrong...

Mary

Madam, I will have you know that my avatar is "The Pig and Pussycat", the crest of Scotland's finest regiment, Her Majesty's Agile and Suffering Highlanders. It has nothing whatsoever to do with your "pet" unless, of course, he has flogged the First Battalion to some unsuspecting American tourist.

cabins / staterooms should also be Non smoking!!

It won't stop until all the world is non-smoking. Ah, but it won't stop there, I suspect! It has already begun, alcohol, food, water. . .round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows!.

Why on earth should smoking be banned on balconies? It's in the fresh air for god's sake. You will get more bad air on deck from the funnel exhausts. Or lingering farts in the lifts for that matter. Give me strength!

I quite agree. However for those who don't like smoke on balconies, book an inside cabin. You might as well be inconvienced by something. And it would still give the non-smokers something to grumble about. Just saying . . . . .

I am anxious to see the effect on casino revenues. If past experience on Cunard and several other lines that have non-smoking nights are any evidence, I'm betting that we will eventually see increases in prices onboard for something to make up for the reduced % of the take that Cunard gets from the casino. Only time will tell.

Bravo, Cunard! It is about time. The public rooms should be smoke-free so all passengers may enjoy them (smokers included - just not when they are smoking). The smokers can smoke elsewhere but the rooms cannot be used (by those who care about their health) while poisoned by smoke.

Regarding the comment above: I do not understand the meaning.

Everyone knows that non smokers complain more about having to walk BY a room where smoking is allowed rather than having to be in one. The same thing will happen to cabin smoking because the non smokers will complain so long and so loud about smell in the hallways that Cunard won't know what hit them.

I do think that the pub and casino will be shutting down earlier which makes for not much of a nightlife after 11:30pm but most of the non smokers will be asleep anyway. :D

You don't get it, do you? It isn't that simple! Smokers will not enjoy it because it is not easy for smokers to turn their smoking on and off. And I don't quite believe the entire issue is about health, because if that were the only concern, then none of you who are so thrilled with the smoker's plight would be spending so much of your time drinking and eating excessively. But you needn't worry, once smoking is totally banned, all that energy will be turned to the rest of the vices. Then we will all be very healthy, won't we?

Isn't that the truth. It makes no difference to me about the new rules. I'll be saving enough every two cruises to pay for another cruise with the money not spent in the casino. ;)

You would think with the new rules supposedly in place the non smokers could give it a rest but I guess they will always find something to complain about. Must be tough not ever having anything to be happy about. :(

My concern is the Damage it has done to people I know, loved who are ill, dies or have side effects of the smoking done, I take goodness have never smoked, I was never that stupid to put something in my mouth and set fire to it, I am happy with new rules, and sure smoke in the cabins, balcony, chruchills, thats all fine.

But the rules are there and made by governments and not anti-smokers and we all have to live by them.

If people want to smoke in the privacy of the cabin or balcony, what's it to you? You can always book a cruise on Celebrity or Regent who do not allow it in balconies or rooms.

Non-smokers are becoming the worst pain in the bottom... and selfish on top of it all... Can't you just compromise?

That means after the smokers have been kicked off the ships, then we will have alcohol banned from the cruises (promotes alcoholism), all desserts and fattening foods (too many fat people on ships), etc.

For your sake, I hope you don't drink, smoke dope, or are overweight. Because if you are any of these things, you should stop being judgmental.

"Its not easy for smokers to turn their smoking on and off " !!!!!!!!!!!

Precisely because smokings an addiction

Anyone who gets Asthma or any other breathing difficulty as a result of 2nd hand smoke or suffers a genuine allergic reaction to smoke has no way whatever of simply turning off the effects

Smokers need to face the fact that fewer and fewer people smoke and they need to be respectful of the problem they may create for others

On our Christmas cruise the bartender in the casino bar told me that the staff Christmas party would be held on the non smoking casino night because they know it will be an early night for the staff.

I'm truly wondering if Cunard has decided that it just isn't worth keeping the Pub and Casino open for about 50 or so people. I mean really, how much can smokers drink after midnight.

They have and they are. Which is why the smokers didn't complain one bit when the ships went approx. 90% non smoking. But of course that isn't enough because the non smokers insist on 100%.

Nonsense.

And anyway, you're not the only one who has had people close who have died of lung cancer. Some of have the sense to realise that it is a free world.

You drink, don't you? You do realise how many people are killed and injured as a result of that, don't you?

Perhaps you should join a temperance movement. And become a vegetarian.

You won't live any longer. But it will feel as if you do.

Just so long as it's in that order - booze, dope and then desserts, I can live with it. :D

*Anti-smokers*, not "non-smokers"! I don't smoke, but I don't give a damn if you do it in your own cabin or on your balcony. Or out on deck. Personally, I don't even care if you smoke in the Casino, I'll just avoid it. Plenty of places onboard where there is no smoke.

I'd prefer if people didn't blow smoke in my kid's face as we're walking out on the deck, but I think that's rather a reasonable request :-)

I'm not sure I understand the links being made here with gambling and late night drinking seemingly only being the prerogative of smokers. Is that true?

Are non-smokers really all miserable and tight fisted?

Certainly not.

But I (and others) think that there is a certain hypocritical stand being taken by anti-smokers who drink - claiming that their health is suffering from the smoking. Doing that with your third Martini in your hand is clearly not a logically sustainable position.

Equally, alcohol is responsible for far more hurt and misery than cigarettes. Ask any policeman.
