kaw904 Posted March 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2010 We are using a shuttle service from Fort Lauderdale airport to Mariott Biscayne Bay. How much would you tip them? Also, how much tip is the usual for a taxi driver? Thank you.

keishashadow Posted March 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2010 most 'big city' taxi drivers expect 15% of fare, if short run, then a few bucks if taking a towncar make sure the gratuity isn't include in the price quoted automatically
cb at sea Posted March 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2010 For a taxi, it's 10-15%...porters get $1-2 per bag, depending on size/weight. On the shuttles, if the driver hangs around long enough TO tip, $5 is ample for 2 of you. We've had them hop off the bus and be out of sight, so guess what? No tip! salty dingo Posted March 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2010 If it is a van with 6 to 10 people, a tip of 2 or 3 dollars is fine. Remember, if everone tips that amount, they have made 15 dollars or so on a half hour drive. Not too bad when combined with their salary.
Almost Packed Posted March 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2010 We usually will tip according to services rendered. If they assist us with our bags, as in, actually get off the bus and place our bags on the shuttle, we will tip them 1-2 bucks per bag...if they are friendly/social etc. If they sit on their rear, don't speak, don't assist with baggage, they are paid an hourly wage, and that's what they get...nada from us. for our cab drivers, we are the same....if you speak, friendly, maybe even point out something along the way, you get a bigger tip....if not, you will get very little. tips are to be earned, people should never "expect" to recieve them. if someone does not earn them, i will not give them tips. i am an ex waitress years ago that supported my family with tips. i know how important tipping is. we should make sure the person we are tipping deserves the tips. why reward bad work/attitudes? we want to reward the people who provide us with good service. jmo
