Carry on luggage for Europe

Has anyone ever suceeded in doing just a carry on for a 12 day in Europe?

What is the max size for a carry on for both airline and the cruise?

I am sure that I am just dreaming here. But I would like to know.

Thank you

I can absolutely say there is no way for me to just take a carry on for a 12 day cruise. The least I've been able to achieve is a carry on, hang-up and a regular suit case. Now, if you wear the same cloths every other day you might be able to achieve that.

For the cruise, the carry on needs to be able to go through the x-ray machine.

As far as airlines, it's the standard: luggage must fit into the overhead, or under the seat.

If you go ahead with this plan, let us know how it worked out.

Carry on weight may depend on airline. We flew Alitalia, and their website said it could only weigh 5kg...That's only 12 lb! We really pared things down, but they didn't weigh it on checkin, and others had standard overstuffed carryons. EM

Haven't done it on a ship but have traveled in Europe for a month with just a carry on. Including Paris and some of the best it has to offer. Not sure what time of year- can be much more of a challenge if the weather is cold. Pack dark colors and non-wrinkling materials. Mix and match. Things you can rinse out and let air dry over night. Don't be afraid to wear pants a number of times. Don't pack jeans- not worn as much and they don't dry and the material is heavy. It is possible and is done all the time. You won't be a fashion doll but you will be clean, well dressed, and appropriate at all times. If they have formal nights, find very light weight dresses (I am making an assumption here).
