midlandcruiser Posted March 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Could someone please tell me if the ship hold your passorts for the duration of the cruise, or are you in possession of it for disembarking in different countries? Thanks
Cymro1953 Posted March 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Hi, No you can keep your passports in the cabin safe. You won't need them to go ashore unless it's somewhere like Egypt. Your ship's I.D. card they give you when you board is enough. Berwyn

Cymro1953 Posted March 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Hi, When we went with Royal Caribbean in June they collected them all in, only so they could sort out getting and Egyptian day visit stamp in the back so we could go ashore. And as far as the official checking them was concerned as we went ashore I could have gone off with yours. All he was concerned with was it had a stamp in the back, did not check the pic or name. tenpin Posted March 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2010 The daily paper will tell you if you need to take passport with you when going ashore, (rare) we take a photo copy for our own safety but seldom have to show it. A photo driving licence is also considered okay in all EU countries. Just make sure you have the local agents telephone number in every port, useful if you miss the sailing time. I forgot the port agent. You'll find the address and phone no. highlited in the ship's paper for each port. It may be handy if you are going ashore on your own and not a ship's excursion. ROSEBASKETS Posted March 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 8, 2010 If you use your credit card for purchases while on shore and the shop has no chip and pin facilities they sometimes ask for photo ID to prove the card is yours.
