Another thing to consider is many resorts offer day passes (you don't have to rent the room), most times it includes (if the resort does this) food and drink .

Just because the ship arrives early doesn't mean you are off right away. If you have a late flight and put this on your debarkation forms for the ship you may not be off until after 9:00am.

As a Canadian (like me) you will also have to go through a different customs line which could be slower.

Try to find out how many other ships are in San Juan that day as it can be very crowded at San Juan airport and you may want to arrive earlier than you would usually for an international flight.

At San Juan airport there is also a separate line for x-ray inspection of your luggage by the Department of Agriculture.

Finally if you still think you have time, you will find local tour operators in the arrivals area who will offer you a tour of San Juan and drop off at the airport for very reasonable prices. This is a lot cheaper than a hotel room and your luggage is safe while you get to enjoy a few more hours of Caribbean vacation.
