serenade emergency....

The helipads are built to withstand the weight of small helicopters only, not large coast guard choppers. I witnesed a medical evacuation on the Voyager of the Seas during its July 30th sailing in 2004. We were sailing down from New York City and only arrived one hour late in Labadee. To compensate we stayed one hour later instead of departing at 4:00p.m. Everyone was relieved to hear that the ill person was responding to treatment in a Bahamian hospital, and was expected to make a complete recovery in just a few days.

Hope the crew member's doing well! We were on Serenade in January 2004, and the ship had to sail back towards Guadeloupe for a medical emergency airlift. This was a passenger. They sent a smaller medical airlift helicopter out from Guadeloupe, and it did land on the helipad. That was also the cruise of "The List" later that evening. An interesting day, to say the least.

We're booked back on board Serenade this coming January, and I'd be interested in knowing who the current captain is, too.
