Grand Turk golf cart rental?

we have two booked for May 10th and I am super excited!! Anyone have ideas on where to go and how long it will take?

Having just returned from Grand Turk a couple of weeks ago, and having rented a golf cart to tour the island, here are the places/activities I recommend while there:

1. I highly recommend going to the Lighthouse. It's beautiful up there, and the view out to the ocean and the reefs where so many ships became wrecked is very impressive.

There was a very sweet, but starving dog up there at the lighthouse when I was there on March 26th. She was scrounging in the trash for sandwiches. Luckily I had brought some dog food with me and so was able to feed her some decent food. She really is skin and bones, so if you can bring a bit of food with you to feed her I'm sure she would appreciate it (as would I). If you don't want to bring dog food with you then a little beef or other type of meat taken from your cruise ship buffet would help her. (Please see my post regarding this sweet pup elsewhere in the Grand Turk section posts.)

Other recommendations on what to do see while touring around Grand Turk on a golf cart:

2. Stop by "The Sandbar" in Cockburn town (pronounced "coeburn") to have a beer on their wonderful, open-air deck overlooking the ocean. I read about this place from Frommer's Turks & Caicos. This unpretentious place is owned by two Canadian sisters, Tonya and Katya, and one of them was tending bar when we stopped by (not sure which sister it was). She was funny and gave me some good-natured teasing about my shirt, which had a Disney character on it. There is a small but beautiful beach right next to the "Sandbar" and we took a swim there. It was a wonderful little place to spend some time.

3. Drive up to the Bohio resort. We had brought our own snorkeling gear and had planned to go snorkeling at the beach in front of the resort, but there were just a few too many people there for our liking. To be fair, we have read other posters who reported they were the only folks on that beach all day (at other times). We didn't stay long, but the resort looked like a very cool, relaxed type of place, perfect for an afternoon of snorkeling. In addition, their outdoor restaurant/bar looked like a fun, laid-back place to get a bite and a drink.

Just go with the idea that the island is a relaxed, fairly undeveloped place where you can enjoy both nature and the local people without the usual commercialism and you'll have a great time!

See thats what we talked about today. We would love to just drive around the island with beers and just got all off the beaten path. Then we will stop by the jacks place. then from 2-5 concentrate on drinking at margaritaville and getting wasted! ;)

If you're going to have beer with you on the cart, remember that you are operating a motorized vehicle on a public road. I don't know what the laws are there, but if they're anything like they are in the U.S., you could get pulled over and charged with DUI and/or driving with an open container if a passenger is drinking when the cop sees you. Even if no jail time is involved, the whole affair could cause you to miss the ship, and that will get very expensive, since you'd have to fly home and possibly return later for a court date. Not to mention it ruining your vacation.

I'm really not trying to be preachy, but I'd avoid driving around while drinking. Wait to do your drinking until after you turn in the cart and can walk, stagger, or crawl back to the ship after you get hammered.

Others have had this same experience that I am looking forward to and have had no problem. Noone said I was going to be so blitzed I couldn't drive but we are going to drive around and stop at bars like everyone else on here has done. Thanks for your concern though.

I am sure one can take a much or as little time as they wish to explore, but I'm wondering how much time to plan if we did rent cart and head to the lighthouse. We are only in port 6 hours and would still like to take in Margaritaville. Is there enough time to do both? How much time does it take to get to the lighthouse area?

Just returned from Grand Turk, it was my first time there. We rented the golf cart and went around the island. Nathan had the carts outside the cruise center gates, total of 9 this particular day and all had been reserved. We went to the tip of the island to the lighthouse, nice scenery. Saw quite a few wild donkey's. Tried to find a beach on the map but there were no signs for it, asked for directions and couldn't get good directions. For an island that's about 18 square miles no one knows where anything is or they are sick of tourist. Finally found Jack's Shack which is about a 200 yard walk up the beach going past Margaritaville. If I ever go again I'll walk up the beach and spend a relaxing day at Jack's. Good food and drinks right on the beach away from the crowds.

One thing that no has mentioned is that they want the golf cart returned with 1/2 tank of gas, gauges don't work so give them $10.00 for gas.

We also rented two carts from Nathan. He gave us a discount because we rented two. It was $70 each. We gave a credit card to hold them. We had limited time on the island so I am glad that we planned it all ahead of time. With my son driving and a cart following us it felt sometimes like a live version of Super Mario brothers but I would recommend this as a fun way to see the island. We went to the light house first and loved reading all the historical markers.

I recently read Jack from Jack's Shack refer to Grand Turk as a little island with a big drinking problem :). He also went on to say that the police might hold your beer for you while you try to get the key in the ignition! Doesn't sound like the States to me! I'm sure you will be fine ;)

If we are only there from 7am to 2:00 is it worth it to do the golf carts?

Does anyone know what is the earliest you can get them?

Not sure if you saw this Destiny "review in process", but the OP is giving a very detailed review of her Destiny cruise, with pictures of golf-carting it in GT. Destiny was in GT during the same timeframe (7am - 2pm). The OP rented a golf cart from Nathan. She got off the ship at 7:30am. Check out her great pictures of GT. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1225407&page=8

I just reserved a couple carts from Nathan for 9/8. Hope I get the 2 cart discount. I'm thinking 7:30-10:30 should be plenty of time to tour the island which will give us a couple hours at Jack's.

I reserved a golf cart for Oct...I have an email from Nathan with confirmation, but I see he has yet to run it through my credit card. I thought I read on here where he bills you right away. Would you happen to know that answer to this? Where you billed yet? Thanks!

Alliea :

I reserved a cart for this November on March 23rd via eMail to Nathan.

The charge showed up on my credit card the next day as " Smith's Gas Station - Turks Caico. "

I made a copy of the Statement and have it with my Confirmation since the correspondence was far in advance of the rental date, but plan to re-confirm a couple of weeks before we get there.

If you don't see the debit on your card in the next day or two, I would eMail Nathan with your concern.

From all the great posts that i have read, we will be getting a golf cart from nathan to see some of the island, then stop by jacks shack for a few cold drinks. Pick up a bottle or two of Bambarra rum and back to the boat.

Can't wait till 11 sep leaving on carnival fantasy our of charlston, sc.
