Do they use seatbelts....need to know about car seats

Hi,

I was wondering if the transportation on the island has seatbelts.

I'm travelling with my 2 and 5 year old and I'm not sure if we should be bringing our car seats. We usually travel with our carseats but I'm not sure what I should do.

If you take your own car seat to use in the vehicle, do you take it along with you eveyrwhere you go? Beaches...other excursions?

I called Carnival and enquired if we booked an excursion what we should do and the lady told me they do not use seat belts on the islands....I just wanted to hear what others actually saw when they were there.

Thanks!

I can just about guarantee you that 99.876% of all modern imported Japanese vehicles

on all these Caribbean islands you're likely to visit

-have modern safety features including seatblets for adults

also suitable for kids of around 8-10 years old and up.

Just like your cars, Up North.

Barbados has a seatbelt law, but I'm not sure about Antigua.

If they don't, it's still a good idea to buckle up regardless of legalities.

We all know that.

If your 5 yr.old is big enough in stature, I think he may fit any seatbelts provided.

(Speeds are generally slow, particularly for taxi drivers showing off their island to visitors)

Car seat for your 2 yr.old kiddo, however is another matter.

Where I live,on Barbados, there's a place you can rent that sorta stuff, but on Antigua...I'm not sure.

Even if they do rent on Antigua, do you need the hassle?

I'm thinking you should bring yours.

Is travelling with one car seat enough bother, or do you need two? :)

Only you can answer that question!

Hopefully others with more parenting experience than me (not difficult!)

will also contribute.

Thanks for the info! Renting a seat sounds like it would be a bit of a hassle. And bringing our is easier. Hopefully there are some parents out there who have some experience with this.
