I have not been to Varna, so I cannot offer any comparison. However, the stop in Nessebur was a genuine delight. A charming town, with interesting architecture. If you stop there, I recommend buying some of the locally made rose "honey". It's sold just about everywhere and is very tasty on bread, etc.
