Miami Hotel

I so much appreciate all the valuable info I have received from cruisecritic.

We usually sail from FLL, but next February we'll be leaving from Miami.

 

I would love some info about hotels in Miami...we will fly in one day early and we would love to pay less than $100. What is the closest area to the port? We are very familiar with priceline and hotwire.

 

What are the pros and cons of airport hotels vs downtown area?

Miami area hotel prices vary substantially by season. What is your sailing date?

Since you will be cruising in Feb, which is peak, the only way you will find a hotel less than $100 will be to look at some of the airport hotels. Be careful as the lower cost ones can be in the middle of nowhere and/or in a pretty crummy area. Some of the nicer ones like in the Blue Lagoon area are near stores and restaurants. The cheaper ones will have nothing near to entertain you.

 

If you have never been to the Miami area, I'd look at hotwire or PL and bid in Downtown. Use betterbidding to see which hotels are in the 3-4 star list. Then check out what the going rate is for the date you need on a few of the hotel's web sites. Start bidding at 40% off and cross your fingers.

 

Remember Feb is HIGH season, so brace yourself. If you can budget something more, you will have more choices.

Feb 24th is our date...but since we're flying from MN, we OFTEN get delayed and don't usually have much time for sightseeing....

We're going on our cruise in Jan out of MN and are doing the same as you. It costs more but I won't have to worry about delays as much by having the extra day. Please post what you settle on so I may copy you.:)
