As my picture below shows, we were surprised that this famed statute is not that massive, nor positioned high, central and large as expected from seeing such famed "icons" in other cities. Glad we saw her in 2008!!!

Sorry that we will miss her in May, but we are looking forward to all the other great sites and cities we will be visiting during our cruise:):)

Doing a search for our upcoming trip/cruise I read somewhere, they are going to put another statue either on the same spot, or next to it. Must be a historical event worthy a photo shot, you think? :cool:

 

Also, in Tivoli they will display the "sister of the Mermaid" - what's that? :confused:

true story -- a Copenhagen local I met told me that when he is down by Tivoli and tourists ask him where the Little Mermaid is, he points them in the right direction and tells them to be sure and visit the revolving restaurant way up in her head. Then they get there, and discover the sculpture is more or less life-size.

Yes,. sorry to say this is very true. While seeing pix of the Little Mermaid, she really seems larger than she is, but she is a symbol of Copenhagen and we really enjoyed seeing her.

But don't dismiss going to that area. there are several other great things to see right around that area

When I saw The Little Mermaid from the canal boat tour, I laughed because I knew the statue was small, but I just wasn't going out of my way on land to see it...kinda reminded me of Plymouth Rock.

 

There are many other sculptures and figures that will catch your eye in Copenhagen, so don't be disappointed.

ah but not to worry - her identical twin sister will take her place. Not like we're all going to go home and say "I saw a rock."

 

The documentation I am getting from my cruise line says that the sculptor had a copy made. His heirs have permitted it to be displayed at Tivoli.

Well - it's THE monument in Copenhagen or better in Denmark and a must.

 

Same would be if Miss Liberty will not be available in New York. Somehow it will be a disappointment - but also a reason to return and see Copenhagen again.
