williluvcruisin Posted April 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2010 FAQ says one glass at a time will be served with a soda card. So they give me one glass. I pour that into my travel mug. I ask for another glass and pour that one too into my travel mug. Any problem with that?
afcj1 Posted April 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I've found that most of the time they do. There's no rule yes or no, so if they want to they will. I usually don't ask for a big one when they're really busy.
lillian marie Posted April 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2010 They may or maynot fill your mug, it'll depend on the barserver.
LambKnuckles Posted April 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I also take my travel mug and when I use the soda card, many times I have to go to another bar to continue filling it... I have found some bartenders and bars that will and I seek them out, during non busy times, and I leave an extra $1 tip. Yes, I know they charged me a tip when I bought the sticker... but they realy are saving me time to go somewhere else!!! I find the Casino Bar in the morning and the aft Lido bar in the "getting dressed for early dinner", the slower ones... Hope this helps!!! Oh, and I order the soda with NO ICE and then get ice myself on the lido by the buffets...

bean-si Posted April 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I've had them refuse to fill my mug. They fill a glass, and I dump it in, and they won't do more. Of course this was in the lobby bar--perhaps big brother was watching them at that time :(
sssteph Posted April 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 16, 2010 So, I'm confused, is the soda on board poured from cans? So it takes longer to fill a larger mug b/c they have to open more cans? I think they'd want folks to use their own mugs as it saves on waste.

Yes, they serve from cans, so if a bunch of ppl came up with BIG cups, they'd spend an enormous amount of time pouring sodas vs makes drinks. As usual tho, it really does depend on who's pouring
bransworld Posted April 16, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2010 Why do they use canned soda instead of fountain? Fountain soda would be so much easier on the bar tenders.
big_duck Posted April 16, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 16, 2010 Why do they use canned soda instead of fountain? Fountain soda would be so much easier on the bar tenders. It must be cheaper or safer. The only reason Carnival has for doing anything. I do know that cases of cans would be easier/more efficient to store then fountain tanks.

They have a syrup bag in them - much like a rum runner. They store VERY well. I've never looked, but do they have draft beer on board? It may be not being able to store CO2 tanks on board. gill_boo Posted April 16, 2010 #13 Share Posted April 16, 2010 A tip in the hand usually helps motivate them to do it.
poobears Posted April 16, 2010 #14 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I don't understand how they could refuse to give you another if you pour that one in your big cup. Your soda card entitles you to unlimited sodas. Not sodas at your bartenders discretion or only one soda in a 15 minute time frame etc. If I drink it right down and ask for another they should give it as long as you seriously abusing his time. 2 drinks is not abuse IMO. I don't drink soda but you get the jist LOL

Shooty Posted April 21, 2010 #19 Share Posted April 21, 2010 we've never done the soda card on Carnival yet (but will on our next cruise) but we have done it on Princess and RC and they have always been fountain sodas...never cans. only cans if you buy a single soda and didn't have the unlimited option. I am shocked it would be cheaper for Carnival to do cans instead of fountain and if other cruise lines can do fountain, then why can't Carnival. There has to be some other reason we aren't thinking of....
atlgants Posted April 21, 2010 #20 Share Posted April 21, 2010 We've always done Disney, and they have an open fountain for drinks free at all times. My daughter will definitely want the soda card when we go on the Sensation May 30th. How much does it cost for the 4 day?
TnMama Posted April 21, 2010 #21 Share Posted April 21, 2010 Maybe they use cans for recyling purposes? So maybe its cheaper for them in the long run to recycle.
