bluetiger9192 Posted April 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2010 We have a rental car in Ketchikan and will be doing Totem Bight and Saxman Village on our own. I know most people think Saxman Village is best done with a tour but it's kinda of pricy for a group of 4. If we go on our own, is the $3 fee at Saxman Village per person or per vehicle? What else can do we see/do at Saxman Village besides see the totem poles? How long should be budget there if we are doing this on our own? Are reservations necessary if we go on our own? Thanks. Budget Queen Posted April 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2010 For a look around Saxman, you can be in/out in an hour. You may be able to get in the Clan House, also one at Totem Bight, and "may" be able to get into/ or look in the windowns of the Carving House. About it without a tour or finding out about the totems. A couple years ago, you could pick up a tour there, stop in the Gift shop and see if perhaps you could get a basic guide to at least give you some commentary, if still available? You will not have access to the dancers. I also suggest a drive to Ward Lake, and especially Preserveration Trail, which is excellent. Also you can occassionally see wildlife near Herring Cove. Going all the way north, is a scenic drive.
pizzalady1 Posted April 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2010 If you are interested in the full tour, which is around $30 per person, you can be part of a tour group, get into the clan house, the carving shed and see the dancers. All you need to do is go to the gift shop and purchase a ticket. You can email info@capefoxtours.com and ask them for the tour times for your particular day.
