What time can I board?

Just booked Alaskan cruise for 2011 on the Millie and noticed that it does not set sail until 9pm. Are you allowed to board early as on caribbean cruises or do we have to wait until later in afternoon? I want to get onboard asap since that is my first day of the cruise..
