2,056 is double occupancy. There are 3 and 4 guests in some rooms so the number of pax on the ship rises.

CNN's likely counting 3rd and 4th passenger berths in cabins (the actual number of passengers on the ship). I'm reasonably sure that the 2056 is just lower berths number.

they said during earnings once they had averaged 103% capacity, which is for all their ships I guess, so some were way over and some under.

Capacity rating is based on two people per stateroom. The fact is that many if not all cabins can accommodate more than two people. The legal limit is probably about 2900 for a Fantasy class ship such as Ecstasy.

The article said no one had to be hospitalized, so no I would not think compensation is called for.
