r&rfraz Posted April 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2010 we are a group fo 3 families (6 adults/8 kids from 6 to 18 yrs) we all have different ideas about what we would like to do while on our 7 day mex riv cruise on the carn. splendor. after doing some research her on cruise critic i am thinking that stone island may be a good choice for our day in maz. it seems like you can rent some atv (for the boys) to ride along the beach, horses (for the girls) also along the beach, some kayaks, banana boat or kayaks for a little fun for everyone. also some relaxing time just sitting around for the adults. it seemed like a good choice economically since we could just rents things as we wnated them without actually booking a full excursion. if you have any expereince with stone island i would love some feedback if this sounds like a reasonable outting for our group. it also sounds like it is easy enough to get to if some in the group are ready to head back to the ship before others. thanks in advance for your feedback.36 days and counting!!!:)
star gazer Posted April 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2010 Stone Island is one of the highlights of Mazatlan. You can take a panga (water taxi) over there and that will be an adventure with that many people. A round trip ticket is about $2 per person and the panga dock is about a fifteen minute walk from the visitor center.
pulledporky Posted April 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2010 Sounds like you picked the right place for all the right reasons. Now you need to pick a place to hang out. Last visit to Victor's, the ATV's were right in front, and half a dozen horses tied to a fence 100 yd away.

It is basically like most places in Mexico were many years ago before Fonatur started putting big hotels on the pretty beaches. The water is shallow for quite a ways, and the surf varies from mild to medium. The water taxi dock is easy to access from the ship, and is very cheap. Beer is cold and reasonably priced, and the loungers are nice. Lety's just added some shades over the loungers near the beach a couple of weeks ago, and several of the restaurants that were closed for some time are being rebuilt and re-opened. It is nice !!! She met us at the termial, ferried us to the island and matched everyone up with horses. Had a great afternoon riding on the beach. Then we all had a great lunch at a thatched beach eatery, sipping cold brews, while still having time to play in the water. It was a good thing. Have fun! novalab Posted May 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2010 We were just there last week. We had a wonderful time with Randi's Happy Horses! We rode up & down the beach at our own pace. When we were finished, we had a fantastic lunch at Victor's. Randy bought the first round:D She is a wonderful lady & we really enjoyed our time talking with her after our ride. You can rent ATV's on the island as well. The island (actually a peninsula) used to be a coconut plantation. It's a very interesting place. Puffinater Posted May 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 3, 2010 We have taken the grandkids to Stone Island a couple times and they have really enjoyed themselves. Banana boats, horseback riding, decent food all at a fair price.
