How much cash should we bring for tipping?

Recommended Posts

If you just use auto tip you might not need to tip over that and it goes on sign and sail.

You could choose to tip MD and that might be $ 10 between the two of you if you so choose.

Few dollars for room service if you use. We will tip 1 or 2 depending upon how much stuff we order.

Few dollars for piano bar if you frequent it and ask for requests.

Also if you go off the ship and want to pay cash to buy something.

We will generally take about $ 200 for 7 day cruise and bring much of that back.

We usually take about $100 in ones and $100 in fives to tip for room service, shore excursions, taxis, porters, etc. We also give a little extra to our cabin steward and waiters if the service is above average, and it always is.

Don't forget about off the ship. Sitting in SJU waiting to go home from the Victory, and IMO it is getting out of control.

Curbside check-in. Taxi drivers. Porters. Tour guides. Tour drivers. The tour guide at the volcano in St. Lucia. Bartenders. Waitresses. Taking a picture with a monkey (yeah, I know that one's optional, just a reminder that the Kodak moments aren't free!). I was shocked there wasn't a tip jar at the Bacardi factory bar!

Then there was the guy at the hotel who tagged our bags. Then the guy who delivered them.

I know this is how they make their living, and we paid it, well over $200 for the 3 of us total, including extra to excellent crew on the ship. But it does get tiring after a while.

Oh- don't forget to tip your casino dealers. I watched a guy win almost $500 in less than an hour at three card poker, and he tipped not even a dollar. I could tell the dealer was not happy when he cashed in and left!
