CAS and NCL world points help needed

First time cashing in world points since the program change -

I booked a Jewel July cruise through CAS - they generously comped me a balcony room which I upgraded to an AB suite. Today I called the world points number to redeem some NCL world points to reduce the price of the cruise and the representative told me that since I got a comped room I did not qualify. When I said I understood that if I kept the balcony but I m paying a substantial amount for the upgrade. She said she didn't think I would qualify since she didn't qualify for redemption with an employee discount.

I then asked about using the points for on board credit. She said I didn't qualify but would check with CAS. I was put on hold for 12 minutes and then told she would transfer over the call to CAS since she couldn't help me. After being on hold a few minutes I was cut off.

What the representative (Rosemary) told me just didn't seem right but before I called the world points number again or tried to go through CAS I thought my fellow CC's could help me out and lead me in the right direction - or was the representative correct?

Thanks so much for any insight you can shed - final payment is due in less than 2 weeks.

Susan... Call CAS ... I assure you that you were told wrong today. I honestly do not know about getting the cost of the cruise reduced since you are on a comp'ed cruise.. but I can promise you that you can cash in your points for OBC and for Casino credits. You do have to do that through CAS though.

EDIT:.. One thing... after you call and cash in your points... wait about a week or so.. then call back to speak to CAS or a regular rep and tell them you just wanted to see what promos they have attached to your reservation. The reason you want to do that is that you can cash in the points and even get a reciept for them, but if they are not attached to your reservation, you are SOL once you get onboard. TRUST me on that. We know from experience. We had ever bit of documention, and it did nothing for us with the folks onboard.

Thanks Terry - I'll try that tomorrow since CAS is closed now. I really didn't care if I got the cruise price reduced or OBC - either way I was fine with it. I figured the rep had to be wrong but I was beginning to wonder what I was going to do with all my points if she was right.

Well - I'm just off the phone with NCL. CAS doesn't do the points and the world points number I called yesterday (from the BofA site is also apparently not the number to call)- I was transferred to a lovely lady in reservations 1-866-234-0292 who assured me she does handle the points. The bad news is - the system was down and I need to call her back but she assured me a second time that her department is in charge of doing the points - just not everyone is trained yet.

(The good news is CAS comped me a balcony on the 2011 Bermuda/Gem sailing - I did upgrade though; gotta love the suite life)

So - as far as the points system goes: arrrgggg - give me back the old program. I'll even gladly mail in the certificates - certified mail of course.

Thanks for the update. This is where guessing gets you in trouble. When I called in to redeem the points the NCL rep told me that since my reservation was with CAS that they had to transfer me over to them for the WP cash in. I just assumed that the rep I was speaking too was a CAS rep. I never thought it might be a CAS rep in the World Points area or where ever I ended up.

I used $2000 in old compass rewards points for an upgrade, deposit and pre cruise package after being comped an AF for 2 through CAS. MY CAS rep handled everything, deducting my credits and all other details. All I had to do was e-mail NCL's cashier with my certificate numbers, didn't even have to send them in. Easy process, since I had to redeem the compass rewards certificates Jan 2010 or lose them
