cruis16 Posted May 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Just a quick one. Can anyone recommend a good cruise guide. I want to buy one for my parents who are planning a cruise this summer. I've narrowed it down to The Beginners Guide to Cruising, or Cruise Ship Secrets. Has anyone read these or can recommend anything else. Many thanks in advance. yarramar Posted May 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2010 I would think the best guide would be an Apple ipad with the Safari home page: http://www.cruisecritic.com
BruceMuzz Posted May 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2010 The Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising is very popular, and edited by one of the heavyweights in the industry. I recommend it.
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2010 I also love the Berlitz, plus Fodors has a cruise guide as well as publishing cruise guides for various areas, like the Caribbean, Europe, and the one I just bought, Alaska. EM
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2010 Like the other to posters, I highly recommend the Complete Guide to Cruising published by Berlitz and written by Douglas Ward. it is updated each year. It provides a lot of good information on cruising and then it also includes writeups on almost all cruise ships. So, assuming they enjoy the cruise when the get back home the writeups will be helpful should they want to choose another cruise ship. I have been using it since around 1991 and while I have read many of the other books I think this is the best. Keith
jmf123 Posted May 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2010 For an easy, fun, and informative read try "The Complete Idiot's Travel Guide to Cruise Vacations".
cruisegirl1000 Posted May 4, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2010 Good question. I found the Berlitz guide too big and only a few pages out of the whole book was useful. I liked Cruise Ship Secrets by Peter Kell, so I recommend going with that one. The complete idiot's guide is good too, but I'm loyal to Peter Kell and his writing style.
