caseys64 Posted May 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Does anyone stay on board in Cozumel rather than doing excursions? Just wondering how empty the ship would be.
Babyberger Posted May 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2010 We did Cozumel years ago and are planning on staying aboard when we sail Allure in 2011. Not sure if that helps at all ;)
househunter Posted May 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2010 Cozumel is the best stop on the Western route! The beaches are gorgeous, the snorkling is amazing and the food is wonderful!!!!:) Because of that, yes, I would think that the ship would be rather empty. Sunkissed Mommy Posted May 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2010 I am planning on staying on the ship. We actually don't plan to get off at all, we're going to explore the ship, not the ports :)
mtruddoh Posted May 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Other than visiting with my friend who is working on the Carnival Triumph (lucked out to be in port the same day), we don't plan on doing any excursions in Cozumel or Costa Maya. We were in Cozumel and saw what we wanted to see then. We wanna see the ship this time.
irishgirl Posted May 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2010 I always get off in Cozumel because it's the best shopping port on the western route. I usually start at Los Cinco Soles and work my way back through town. I grab a bite to eat at Cafe Denis ending with drinks and snacks at Carlos & Charlies then across the street to Margaritaville before going back to the ship. Cruising89143 Posted May 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 8, 2010 One place that is a must while in Coz is lunch at Pacho's Backyard. Love, love, love this place. http://www.loscincosoles.com/panchosbackyard/home.htm
caseys64 Posted May 8, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Thank you - does this mean you can get off and shop and eat without taking a cab?
Cruising89143 Posted May 8, 2010 #11 Share Posted May 8, 2010 It depends on where you want to eat. For the original Pancho's Backyard, you must cab it downtown. There is another PB at the Carnival pier next to the International Pier but I have never dined there. Shopping and dining is better downtown. willysgrandma Posted May 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted May 8, 2010 Last time we were in Cozumel, we walked off the ship to the El Cid resort next door and bought a day pass. We stayed at the resort, swam at their beach and ate and drank as much as we wanted. We've been to Cozumel so many times, it was a great way to spend the day. BrianAlt Posted May 9, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 9, 2010 I'm planning on getting off for lunch and a couple of margaritas and then spend the rest of the afternoon on board.
Trevoli Posted May 10, 2010 #14 Share Posted May 10, 2010 That sounds like a nice way to spend the day. Can you walk to these places from the ship? It's been years since I was on Coz. Used to be you could walk off the ship, down the pier, and there was C & C's across the street. I don't think that Margaritaville existed back then. irishgirl Posted May 10, 2010 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2010 If you're ambitious, you could walk it, it's several miles from where the ship docks to town. The Oasis docks out at the International pier. The cab ride is fairly inexpensive, less than $10. I always take a cab to Los Cinco Soles then walk back and get a cab from Margaritaville (across the street and down a bit from Carlos & Charlies). KingDoggie Posted May 10, 2010 #16 Share Posted May 10, 2010 We stayed on the ship last Thursday when it was in Cozumel. I'd say we were in the Solarium about 90% of the time so it's hard to say how empty the ship was, but the Solarium was fairly empty. Of course, as the day wears on and people come back from their excursions / shopping / etc. it started to fill up.
BrianAlt Posted May 11, 2010 #17 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Can you walk to these places from the ship? I believe it's best to take a cab, but it's a relatively short ride and not very expensive (as irishgirl said). :)
Trevoli Posted May 11, 2010 #18 Share Posted May 11, 2010 Several miles??? Dang. I really like to walk, but that's too much, even for me. Especially if it's warm/humid. Cabs it will be. Or stay on the ship. Thanks, all.

If the International is not the pier near C & C , the El Cid is a three minute walk from the pier. They had reps. right at the pier selling the day passes.
