OntarioTraveller Posted May 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Once the ship docks in port how soon can you get off? We have reserved day passes at a hotel in Nassau but the ship does not dock until noon. How soon can we expect to be off the ship? Would it be really conjested? If the ship is scheduled to dock at 7 am, can you be off the ship by 7:30? Do people usually want to be off the ship this early? Thanks for your help!!! dprg644 Posted May 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2010 You can figure on about +/-30 minutes after the ship "actually" docks by that I mean tied up and cleared by that country. The crowds are normally pretty heavy as soon as you can debark so keep that in mind.

We were supposed to arrive at Half Moon at 9am.....we were on a tender to the island at 8:30. Similar in other ports, obviously don't count on this though........ apdchief Posted May 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Don't leave your luggage out the night before, carry it off if you can it will make things much faster.
Aknot Posted May 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Along these lines (HA!) is it permissible to wait in line early? I am usually an early riser. Would it be ok to stand at the door 30 mins before dock time? 60mins? Is there only one place to exit?

The ship is usually docked and cleared by customs at the time specified in the Fun Times for arrival. You can immediately begin getting off, and the only delay is the photographers who insist on taking pictures. There is really no need to line up or wait ahead of time. If you are tendering the process is slightly different and will take longer.

Not sure how much fun it would be to wait on the stairs for 30-60 mins.
maldenmusic Posted May 12, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Last time we docked in Cozumel we were early and were already off the boat by the time we were supposed to have arrived.
Perfect Stranger Posted May 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Sometimes they dock early and don't even announce it.
OntarioTraveller Posted May 12, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted May 12, 2010 So do you usually line up if you want to get off right away? Do they scan or check any bags you may be bringing into port? Thanks for your help!
DaytonCruiser Posted May 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Do they scan or check any bags you may be bringing into port? Thanks for your help! No, they dont scan anything as you are getting off the ship, just when you return.

Several ports we have heard announcements NOT to do this as the local authorities will refuse to clear the ship for debarkation if they deem there is too much of a crowd blocking halls and stairwells (local authorities board the ship to inspect prior to letting anyone off.) Thanks for your help! No need to line up, enjoy watching the ship dock and go back and grab your stuff and you'll be off by the time you get down to the embarking deck. They don't scan your bags or anything coming from the ship but plan on getting it scanned getting back on the ship and depending on which ports possibly (not all) by the host country first.
