Muster drill location

Recommended Posts

We have a D8 on deck 6 near the aft elevators on the Oasis. Does anyone know where our muster location will be? I'm hoping the Aqua Theater since it will be so close, but I've looked through several reviews and no one has mentioned where it is, only that we don't have to bring life jackets any more.

Thanks in advance if you have any information.

Most stations are on the Royal promonade, and in Entertainment place. We were forward on Deck 12, and our muster station was in the On Air club. No life jackets taking up room in your room, they are all stored in the stations your assigned to..... They swipe your sea pass and this is how they know you are present. And if you don't show up the captain comes on the blower and lets everyone know how many people they are short, and asks you nicely to report to your station - with a gentle reminder that we arn't leaving until everyone is in attandence for the muster drill.....

I felt that the muster stations and the drill was a big farce:mad: because if there was a real emergency I wonder how many would jump over and try to get a life jacket on everyone? We were in this cafe on Promenade near the Rising Tide bar there was 150 of us, there are lots of them all over the ship, we waited and I was told to get up to let someone else sit. I have a bad knee and told the employees that my knee was bad and she said I would have to get up if someone who had a cane over me can have my seat. I asked and no one answered, so I sat with an eldery woman who said they want to pull your horns. I think that the drill was not like the other ones we have, there is no life jackets in our state rooms to me that is a safety issue and a no no in my book. I am not here to complain but to let you know that your safety to me is a BIG concern!

Just being on a deck near the aft elevators may not ensure you get the same Muster Station as someone else near the same area. It depends on your "specific" location and cabin number. Case in point, on our 4/17 Oasis cruise we sailed with two other couples. We were on Deck 11 near the aft elevators. Cabin 11688 went to one Muster station and our next two cabins, 11690 and 11692 went to different Muster stations. The difference? Cabin 11688 was on the other side of the firedoor, aft near the elevators.

But don't worry, you will still be sent to some public area below on Deck 5 or 4 since all of the lifecraft are on Deck 5.

Tip: Just before the Muster drill ride the elevator down to your station. The elevator are stopped during the drill. It can at least save a long walk down for those who are stair challenged. The walk up after the drill - the elevators are jammed - (for us Deck 5 to Deck 11) was grueling with the masses using the stairs. Just find a place to chill on the Prominade deck and let the crowd clear.

Above all... enjoy your cruise! The Oasis is MAGNIFICENT!!!

Not all of them are stopped, they just don't let you use them. But if they see that you have difficulty walking, they will let you use the elevators. My mom didn't even have to ask.

BTW I also saw staff telling some teenagers dressed only in shorts to go back and get shirts and shoes on before continuing down the stairs.

hobiecat1,

Thanks for that info. I hadn't thought about the fire doors being a dividing point, but that makes sense. On our Voyager cruise in February I had plenty of time to study the deck plans and the list of muster stations while I was waiting for my appointment with the Loyalty Ambassador. I did notice that handicapped cabins all seemed to have the same station and that the cabins did seem to be grouped, sometimes even by whether they were doubles or quads.

I'm just trying to decide if I want to go back to our cabin for sailaway or head for the fourteenth deck forward "wingwalk" area or the deck seven aft areas. With a ship this big, I don't want to be walking from the front to the back to the front again.

Okay the drills are required by the U.S. Coast Guard so they will never go away. HOWEVER people don't pay attention. We were on a ship and at 2 AM the alarm sounded. We grabbed our life jacket and went to our station which was on the deck under our life boat. And so did about 10 other people. After 20 minutes, still no one else showed, and the Captain annouced the reason for the alarm was a steam pipe had broken on one of the caabin decks and it was at first thought to be smoke and possible fire. After inspection by the fire crew it was confirmed it was steam only and not a threat to the safety of the ship.

I guess in a real fire we would have been alone in the life boat. Our guy to drive the boat was there but no people. I guess until the flames reach the cabin no one cares.

Yes we did go back to the cabin and back to sleep but was suprised that people were so complacent.

Jan,

We did not sail until 9:00 PM on our 4/17 cruise due to travel delays with the folks trying to fly in from Europe. This was the first Oasis cruise after the Icelandic volcano and the European flights were in shambles. So this was not an issue... until... we tried to get onto the Deck 14 'Wingdeck" just before sailaway. The door to the open deck was locked due to some kind of work being done. We asked a passing Ship's Officer about it and he radioed for someone to open the door. But he said it could be 30 minutes before someone would get there with the key. So we went up to another outside deck for sailaway. So, check the door early to make sure it's open!

Enjoy your cruise!!! The Oasis is magnificent! You will be amazed...

When the alarm sounded, were you instructed to go to your muster station? Just because an alarm sounds, that does not mean you muster. You need to pay attention and follow the instructions given.
