Need help on optional tours,please

Recommended Posts

Just received my documents for upcoming cruise in Adriatic, unless volcano ash gets me....but wondering about the optional excursions.Do many take these?are they worth the money?better to do towns on own with guidebook? Need some opinions, will they talk about these on ship...have only seen website info....so not sure to book some or just play it by ear.....thanks in advance...:)

I've heard great things about the "Split Riviera" boat thing. We're going to do that one (and probably only that one) when we go in July. On the rest of the days we'll just wonder on our own.

Yes, they will talk about them on board and you can ask questions. The first afternoon, after boarding there is an excursion briefing. I have found it worth attending. You can ask about what options you have on your own and they will tell you what's available. In some ports there is transportation to the close by town so you don't have to walk or take a cab. The concierge always has maps that you can take with you. Last year in Seville, Spain, a local tourist info person came aboard and helped you plan your day, suggested restaurants, etc. I've been pleased with most of the excursions I've taken on SD, but we also have done a number of ports on our own and had a great time. I don't ever remember having them fill up before sailing, so I have always waited til I got on board to book.
