travelbig Posted May 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2010 I will sail from Boston to Quebec City on Sept. 25. What did you do in Cornerbrook? Is it easy to get around on your own? It is a small town centered around the Cornerbrook Pulp and Paper Mill. There is a wonderful park with walking paths which can be walked to from the pier. http://www.cornerbrook.com/tourism/tstream.html http://www.cbstream.com/ But this will not take all of your day. The scenery outside of town is what you want to see. Look at what the ship is offering for excursions and see if you can find a local company to take you there instead. Gros Morne National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site but it is a 1 1/2hr. drive to get to it. Locals say it is worth the drive. http://www.grosmorne.com/main.htm
trophy_23 Posted May 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2010 We took a cab from town to the monument at the top of the hill it was like $6. We took a few nice photos of the ship (its a beautiful view) and then walked back downhill to town. We then walked around the stream and lake mentioned above. It was a nice little town, but there wasn't a ton of stuff to do really.
maryann ns Posted May 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2010 Rent a car and drive to Gros Morne Park. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gros_Morne_National_Park Take a boat ride at Western Brook Pond. Do a search here on CC or with Google for car rental companies. If you go to the roll call for your cruise you may find people organizing private tours. GTJ Posted May 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Gros Morne is probably the single best attraction in the area. I've been there twice, and while I will not disagree about the Western Brook Pond tour, I was more fascinated with the Tablelands. Alas, I don't think the Trout Brook Pond tour is being offered this year, but stop at the visitor's center and tour the area on road and/or foot if at all possible. I used Martin's Transportation, (709) 453-2207, to get around the Tablelands (the company also provides service to and from Corner Brook), but I understand that Viking 430 Shuttle also provides transportation from Corner Brook, (709) 458-3016. Going to and from Western Brook Pond I used Pittman's Taxi, (709) 458-2486, who also operates to and from Corner Brook. As you research you may read about the Viking Express bus, a company that I used as well between Deer Lake, Gros Morne, and St. Barbe, but the company has since discontinued operations.
