pdcat21 Posted May 21, 2010 #27 Share Posted May 21, 2010 UGH! I'm hooked! My only regret is that my pocketbook can't handle my addiction. Ditto. I took my first cruise in 2006 but have only been on one since. Luckily I have one booked for next April, but it is still too far away. My only hope is to win the lottery. Wish me luck. Frank12 Posted May 21, 2010 #28 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Yep, I'm an addict too. After the first cruise you're either hooked or completely turned off. Not much in between. How true.
Rok4u2 Posted May 21, 2010 #29 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Hello, my name is Robert, and I am a “cruise-aholic”. I became addicted to cruising over 37 years ago. I don’t know why, it just happened. I had always feared being at sea. I knew that if I looked over the railing my glasses would suddenly fall of my face, my watchband would break or my camera would fall overboard. So at the urging of a few friends, I tried it “once”. Guess what didn’t happen? I came off the ship with my glasses, my watch and my camera. I had eaten to my hearts content, drank too much and loved being waited on hand and foot. Everywhere I went there were people offering me drinks, serving me delicious meals, taking way dirty dishes, making my bed, picking up used towels and leaving chocolates on my bed. I introduced friends to my new habit and they loved it too. I went from being a “user” to being an “abuser”, and even a “pusher”. One cruise lead to another and to another, each time the high became better and recovery slower. During the 80’s I had to take a break, but in 1989 to was back into the habit. The 90’s really had me hooked, 13 cruises. I did my first ever, but not my last, transatlantic cruise on the Queen Elizabeth 2 and there were cruises in Norway, the Canary Islands and Alaska. There was NO turning back now. I had sold my life to the cruise lines. The world turned a new century and I turned into my habit with gusto. The new century started with cruises in the Mediterranean and to Norway. Then I discovered a new source for my habit, Carnival Cruise Lines. In a matter of five years they fed my habit nine times. But the old “Queen” blasted her siren horn and I went for the ultimate of a World Cruise, sailing from New York to Sydney. Now as this year comes to a close, my habit controls the checkbook, credit cards, a second home mortgage, my children’s inherence and me. Do I want the “cure”? No, I am a “cruise-aholic” and proud of it. The only “12 step program” I want is: waiters making me drinks, serving me delicious meals, taking way dirty dishes, making my bed, picking up used towels, leaving chocolates on my bed, having afternoon tea, going to the piano bar, loosing a few dollars in the casino, making new friends from all over the world and hearing the words “Welcome back Sir Robert”. mag Posted May 21, 2010 #30 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Yes I agree we are all addicts but in a good way! Years ago on CC someone started a thread similar to this one, and the O.A.T.C. was started. I think that it just faded away after a time, but I have just kept this in my sig (see below) for all these years..."Openly Addicted to Cruising"! and proud of it. klfrodo Posted May 22, 2010 #35 Share Posted May 22, 2010 LOL!! Hi! My name is.. (what?) My name is.. (who?) My name is.. {scratches} Slim Shady Hi! My name is.. (huh?) My name is.. (what?) My name is.. {scratches} Slim Shady Ahem.. excuse me! Can I have the attention of the class for one second? :D THANKS Again Actually I can be blamed for the demise of Eminem's career. When a 53 YO white dude starts liking your music, your career as a rap artist is over. ;)
Gypsywych Posted May 22, 2010 #36 Share Posted May 22, 2010 I'm an addict! Me ! Me ! Me! I'm a cruise planning addict, I'm a Cruise Critic addict, I'm a cruise addict! Half my fun is the pouring over the cruises, deciding, then planning, and finding out everything I possibly can about the ship we're going to be on. My poor husband.... I felt sorry for him, listening to me for hours and days going on and on about checking prices, what balcony is best, itineraries, etc. That is til this week. He looked at me and said.... 'I'm ready to be on a cruise'.:D
