PETER DEILMANN CRUISES HAS HAD TO EVACUATE

607crew and guests (including Australians)

from onboard ms Deutschland, after a fire

erupted in one of its machine rooms.

According to reports, the fire broke out

on Sunday whilst Deutschland was cruising

on her 16-night Norwegian Fjord itinerary,

and although the fire was contained to the

one machine room, the heat spread through

the vessel rapidly.

So far there have been no reports of

injuries, and evacuees which hail from

Australia, Germany, Israel, Japan and the

Czech Republic are currently holed up in a

hotel in the port township of Eidfjorden

before awaiting flights back to Hamburg

where Deutschland departed from.

As for the vessel, she is currently docked in

Eidfjord where yesterday firefighters were

still using hoses and pumps to cool her hull.

A regional rescue worker, Per Fjeld told

local reporters that at present, it is still too

soon to determine the extent of

Deutschland’s damage.
