sassystyxfan Posted February 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2005 I have maps of all the stops on the Mexican Riviera, but is there something that shows where the ship docks at each port? It would really help to know which direction we should go with the time we'll have. Or if there isn't a visual, would someone be willing to give me a ballpark answer? For: Monterey (I'm assuming it's right in front of Fisherman's Wharf?) PV Mazatlan Cabo Thank you to anyone who can help!
bzy1 Posted February 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2005 You dock in the Marina area. PV is in the center of the Bay of Banderas with Nuevo Vallarta ( State of Nayarit) to the north, along with towns such as Mezcales, Bucerias, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta de Mita/ el Anclote. To the south of the cruise ship dock is the Hotel Zone, Puerto Vallarta Centro, the southside, Conchas Chinas area, Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlan, and the "by water only" beaches of Las Animas, Majahuitas, Caletas, Yelapa and Quimixto. To get downtown/anywhere from Punta de Mita to Boca de Tomatlan you can take the bus(es) or take a taxi. Buses stop right by the cruise ship dock heading south to the downtown core and just south of the Rio Cuale....(to head south, stay on the same side of the HWY as the ocean) Here are some general maps to check out: http://www.vallartaonline.com/maps/ Remember, you land in the Marina...*Martime Terminal*
suziehmkr Posted February 2, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Or if there isn't a visual, would someone be willing to give me a ballpark answer? For: Monterey (I'm assuming it's right in front of Fisherman's Wharf?) PV Mazatlan Cabo In Monterey you will drop anchor and tender into the wharf. PV has already been explained... In Mazatlan, you dock in the Marina between the "mainland" and Stone Island In Cabo, you will drop achor and tender in to the "first" marina - closest to the famed Arch. The is another marina past that, so don't get lost coming back to the ship like we did! LOL Hope this helps.
Ine Posted February 2, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2005 We didnot dock in P. Vallarta, because Carnaval Legend (?) was in port. So we had to tender and it took a long time before we got ashore. On the way back it was low tide, then it took even much loinger before everybody could board the tender. Tender is Cabo were amazingly quick however. Bob7 Posted February 6, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2005 Hey Laura we found this good closeup map of the dock area in PV, here's the link: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/puerto-vallarta/marina-vallartas.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dterminal%2Bmaritima%2Bpuerto%2Bvallarta%26start%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN The ship pier is where it says Terminal Maratima. Note how close the Sams and Walmart are :-)) And here's the link to a map of the whole PV coast: http://www.si-mexico.com/city_maps/vallarta/p_vallarta_hotel_map.gif You can see our port area near where the airport is marked. There is a 110 store mall with A/C, Paradise Plaza, a few miles north at Paradise Village. The bars and cafes and shops are to the south in the Downtown area. If you need maps for Cabo or Maz let me know. -Bob

Bob7 Posted February 9, 2005 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Hey Laura, One thing puzzled me, cruisers who went to the Krystal Resort said it was much faster to walk down the back road than down the main drag, but on that map the main drag looked like it went right past the docks. But then I found an overhead photo in Tom Ogg's port review showing what it really looks like, it must be from a postcard or else he was hang-gliding :-) it's on page 3 of this link: http://www.mexicoportreviews.com/PuertoVallarta.htm and it shows the ship is a bit of a walk from the main drag, and it would be a shorter walk down that side-street right off the gangway. Another bummer, his review says only one ship can dock at a time, and any others have to tender :-(( I don't see a date on his review, don't know how old it is, and whether that is still the situation. We'll be on the Vision and another ship will be in port, forget which one. Fingers crossed. (Maybe it's be a race to the dock, like the movie Speed 2). Here's the best map we found of Mazatlan Old Town: http://www.mazatlan.com.mx/city/MazatlanOldTown.pdf and one of the Golden Zone: http://www.mazatlan.com.mx/city/MazatlanGoldenZone.pdf This one has more street names and sights marked in Old Town: http://www.pacificpearl.com/Images/map3.jpg And this is the best map of Cabo we found: http://www.loscabosguide.com/maps/pics/cabo-san-lucas-map-04.jpg -Bob

bzy1 Posted February 9, 2005 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Normally PV can dock two ships but they are working right now building a thrid dock. Again, some ships with a deep birth cannot dock, such as the Norway, which I was on where we had to tender in at every port, no matter what as the docks were all too shallow. Bob7, you are correct, the back road past the Crown Paradise/ de Oro/ is a short cut to the Krystal. Much easier!
BUCKGILBERT Posted February 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2005 At the tender ports, be sure and ask your purser for a tender ticket. What they do is get the ship sponsered excursion folks off first then the people with tender tickets and then those who don't have them. They are numbered and they call the numbers. Kinda like playing bingo. LOL but you will get off the ship sooner if you have one. Calm Seas, Buck
