Post cruise Copenhagen visit and airport transfer

We are arriving in Copenhagen on July 9th, (Eurodam ship); leaving that afternoon for Paris. We are a family of 6 and would like to explore the city a bit before going to the airport. Does anyone have suggestions as to what is our best tour option other than the ones offered by Holland America? Is there a place to store luggage at the port?

Here you can see what we did last year:

same problem: early arrival on EURODAM

late departure from Kastrup airport:

Here would be a baggage storage at Central Station.

Later you can take the train to the airport:

Depending on what time your plane leaves, you can do a HoHo bus tour of the city. there are also a couple of private tour companies that will do a half day tour of the city. http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/content/tourist/what_to_see_and_do/tours_and_excursions

If you want to venture off on your own. I would head for the Nyhavn section and do a canal boat tour of the harbor and canals of Copenhagen. You will see many of the sites of the city from a different angle and you can grab some great refreshments along the way.

Cheers

I have a spare day before late flight in Copenhagen next week, and have found 2 self-guided walking tours that I'm going to do. If you're all ok for walking a couple of hours maybe it could be of interest http://www.frommers.com/destinations/copenhagen/0048020033.html

I'm planning on leaving my luggage at the train station - there are lots of luggage lockers there - which is good for getting the train to the airport later on.

Copenhagen was a joy to walk around in. we also opted for a walking tour. We had a port day there and got a great walking tour from the Copenhagen tourism bureau. It took us about 7-8 hours to do everything but we stopped numerous times, for lunch, for the Changing of the Guard, for the Canal boat tour, and to just sit in a local park, enjoying some ice cream and eventually chatting with some of the people we met there. Most of the main sights are in a sort of mile radius, so once you get there everything isn't that far apart. Except for the Little Mermaid, who isn't around anyway, this year, you should be able to see most of the main sights in your time frame.

A few lix of some of the sights of this marvelous city.

The Changing of ther Guard ceremony at the palace every day at noon

The Marble Church

The Nyhavn section, where you can do the canal boat tour or just grab a great bite to eat

The Stroget, a large pedestrian mall with many, many shops and things

City Hall in the main square,a cross the street from Tivoli Gardens

Rosenborg Castle, where you can view the Crown Jewels or just stroll in the Rose Gardens

Cheers

No, as I said, we walked. We had a map of a great walking tour, and it is not very hard to walk from one place to another. Each place is sort of 'on the way'.

If you dock at Langeline, the Little Mermaid is right there (except for this year). then on to the Palace, to Nyhavn, to Stroget, to city Square and Tivoli Gardens, to Rosenborg Castle and time to visit other places or head back to the ship. We were there on a Sunday and had glorious weather. We went to a public park and many, many families were there enjoying the day. We found some delicious ice cream, and sat and ended up chatting with several of the families, just about life in general. It was a fantastic time.

Cheers

I wasn't sure if it was a good value for admission to the attractions or if you just paid as you went. We will plan on walking almost everywhere as well. Thanks for the reply:)

Hello, visit this site http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/content/tourist/what_to_see_and_do/copenhagen_card/whats_included_with_copenhagen_card/free_entrance_with_copenhagen_card

to see the cost of the Copenhagen card and the cost of the places you want to visit. We came in a day early in May and got our 24 hour card at the airport. We used it in conjunction with the hop on hop off bus. We easily recovered the cost with the places we wanted to see. Happy Trails!

Just disembarked in Copenhagen and they tried to scare us on the ship into buying the ships transfers (very expensive $36 pp) as they said cabs were hard to find and would result in a long wait. A ships transfer would not work for us as we were headed to a hotel not the airport of city centre.

We disembarked as late as possible at 9am and grabbed our luggage and got a cab to the Crown Plaza near the airport - very short cab lineup which took less than 5 mins - cab fare for the 3 of us was only 40Euros or $60.
