Yrul Posted May 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2010 We are arriving in Copenhagen on July 9th, (Eurodam ship); leaving that afternoon for Paris. We are a family of 6 and would like to explore the city a bit before going to the airport. Does anyone have suggestions as to what is our best tour option other than the ones offered by Holland America? Is there a place to store luggage at the port?

I would head for the Nyhavn section and do a canal boat tour of the harbor and canals of Copenhagen. You will see many of the sites of the city from a different angle and you can grab some great refreshments along the way. Cheers Len

If you're all ok for walking a couple of hours maybe it could be of interest http://www.frommers.com/destinations/copenhagen/0048020033.html I'm planning on leaving my luggage at the train station - there are lots of luggage lockers there - which is good for getting the train to the airport later on. Giantfan13 Posted May 30, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2010 Copenhagen was a joy to walk around in. we also opted for a walking tour. We had a port day there and got a great walking tour from the Copenhagen tourism bureau. It took us about 7-8 hours to do everything but we stopped numerous times, for lunch, for the Changing of the Guard, for the Canal boat tour, and to just sit in a local park, enjoying some ice cream and eventually chatting with some of the people we met there. Most of the main sights are in a sort of mile radius, so once you get there everything isn't that far apart. Except for the Little Mermaid, who isn't around anyway, this year, you should be able to see most of the main sights in your time frame. A few lix of some of the sights of this marvelous city. The Changing of ther Guard ceremony at the palace every day at noon http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe233.jpg The Marble Church http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europemaster267.jpg The Nyhavn section, where you can do the canal boat tour or just grab a great bite to eat http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe247.jpg The Stroget, a large pedestrian mall with many, many shops and things http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europemaster303.jpg City Hall in the main square,a cross the street from Tivoli Gardens http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe326.jpg Rosenborg Castle, where you can view the Crown Jewels or just stroll in the Rose Gardens http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/Giantfan13/baltics/europe332.jpg Cheers Len

Giantfan13 Posted June 4, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2010 Hi, Did you use the Copenhagen card they sell on the visitor website? Thanks! No, as I said, we walked. We had a map of a great walking tour, and it is not very hard to walk from one place to another. Each place is sort of 'on the way'. If you dock at Langeline, the Little Mermaid is right there (except for this year). then on to the Palace, to Nyhavn, to Stroget, to city Square and Tivoli Gardens, to Rosenborg Castle and time to visit other places or head back to the ship. We were there on a Sunday and had glorious weather. We went to a public park and many, many families were there enjoying the day. We found some delicious ice cream, and sat and ended up chatting with several of the families, just about life in general. It was a fantastic time. LINGBER Posted June 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 4, 2010 I wasn't sure if it was a good value for admission to the attractions or if you just paid as you went. We will plan on walking almost everywhere as well. Thanks for the reply:)

We will plan on walking almost everywhere as well. Thanks for the reply:) Hello, visit this site http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/content/tourist/what_to_see_and_do/copenhagen_card/whats_included_with_copenhagen_card/free_entrance_with_copenhagen_card to see the cost of the Copenhagen card and the cost of the places you want to visit. We came in a day early in May and got our 24 hour card at the airport. We used it in conjunction with the hop on hop off bus. We easily recovered the cost with the places we wanted to see. Happy Trails!

Beyond the Sunrise Posted June 5, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Where at the airport the card is sold? At the ticket counter for the trains where you go downstairs to catch the train. They take credit cards and dollars.

BCHappyGal Posted June 5, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Just disembarked in Copenhagen and they tried to scare us on the ship into buying the ships transfers (very expensive $36 pp) as they said cabs were hard to find and would result in a long wait. A ships transfer would not work for us as we were headed to a hotel not the airport of city centre. We disembarked as late as possible at 9am and grabbed our luggage and got a cab to the Crown Plaza near the airport - very short cab lineup which took less than 5 mins - cab fare for the 3 of us was only 40Euros or $60.
