Just Booked-but have questions

OK, I just booked our cruise out of NY to Canada.

I haven't been on a cruise in almost 20 years so I can't even remember most of it.

I was just wondering if someone could list the stages of what goes on.

Park at the port. Then what happens? Do we wait on the dock or in the parking lot to board?

What time can you start boarding?

Do you go up to someone and give them your luggage to scan but keep your carry on?

I have a nebulizer for my son so I am carrying that on.

Do they then give you a boarding pass and you wait for them to call your zone (read that somewhere on here). Does it go by suites, then lower cabins, etc?

Once you get on, do they put your luggage in your room? And can you go eat?

Once you get to Canada, is getting off smooth or do you have to go through huge lines, etc?

Then, could someone go through the process at the end of the cruise with getting off the cruise? Thought I read that you have to have your luggage outside you cabin the night before. Do they just do that for flyers or everybody? What time do you have to leave the ship at the end? Could you walk around and eat and play at the casino?

Thanks for any answers you can give.

I'm getting excited for my trip.

Not sure how to answer all of your questions, but I do know that at the end of your cruise, the casino will NOT be open as it only operates in international waters. At the end of your cruise, you can choose to haul off all your own luggage the morning you disembark or you can set it out the night before for the ship's crew to take it off for you. That applies to everyone.....not just flyers.

Usually everyone is off the ship by 9:30 or 10 am when you get back. If you want to take off all your luggage, thats first, then they call numbers, and for that you put out your suitcases the night before. If you have more than you want to carry off, then put it outside with the number tag on it to pick up after you get off the ship.

When we hit a port, I wait 30 minutes before rushing to the exit, after the start letting people off the ship. Never have a long line that way to wait in. If you are sitting in the stair well waiting for the ship to be cleared to have every moment in the port, yes, there is a line, but it dissapears fast.

Somebody takes your luggage. I usually carry my carryon with me, but for my last cruise I gave them that too. It was all delivered to my room before dinner (Some people had to wait longer though. You will not be able to get into your room until about 1:30, so if you bring your carry on with you, you have to hold on to it until your room is open. I have heard of people sneaking to their rooms and putting it there, but the doors are not locked, so anyone could take it. Also, sometimes the halls are blocked off so that you can't even get to your room.

Your zone ticket goes by the order you arrived at the pier, not the type of cabin you have. Some people are VIP and can board first. If they are not letting people on the ship when you arrive you will be given a zone number. There are chairs and vending machines, so it is not a bad wait. Depending on when you get there, you may be able to just walk on the ship.

When you board the ship they encourage you to go eat at the buffet.

You are able to carry your own bags off if you want.

Sometimes you can stay on until 9:30-10:00, but they kick you out of your room. Your steward has a lot of work to do before the next guests arrive. It is not a lot of fun because you have a lot of sad cruisers just sitting around waiting for their turn to leave. It is very crowded. There will be no casino.
