rowlady Posted June 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2010 We are a family of 5 (mom, dad and teens) that will be docking in St Thomas on June 29 (Explorer of the Seas) and wondered what website I can go to that will tell me how many ships will be in port with us that day. Also - do the taxi's in the area typically have room for 5 passengers? I havent decided which beach to visit that day - torn between Coki and Meghans Bay but am open to any suggestions - we are just looking for a beautiful beach with the usual amenities (chairs, food, umbrellas, drinks) and maybe some light snorkling. I have read the threads on this board but am still confused on which beach to choose. Help! Thanks, Debbie
The Islander Posted June 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2010 On June 29th there are two ships scheduled: Explorer of the Seas and Liberty. Yes the taxis that cater to the cruise ship docks can accommodate 5 people... and more! The taxis are typically safaris (some can hold up to 20 passengers) or vans (usually 8-10 passengers). Usually the driver will wait around to get several couples/groups going to the same destination in order to fill their vehicle before heading off. Taxi fares are per person, by destination. If you wanted a private taxi just for your group you'd pay a bit more than going in the 'group' taxi. If its between Coki and Magens and you want to do a little snorkeling then you'd have to go with Coki. Magens is a beautiful beach and has chairs, food, drinks and natural shade (no umbrellas) but not much to see snorkeling. Try looking at a beach guide for St. Thomas, maybe that will help, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=st.+thomas+beach+guide+northside&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=. --Islander
rowlady Posted June 11, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Thank you for your answer - the link you sent had a nice bit of info and I am now torn between Coki and Secret Harbor. Will show my family the details and let them decide! I appreciate knowing there will be only 2 ships in port that day - can you tell me what the web site is so I can check on the other ports? Thanks again for your help - it is appreciated! Debbie

The Islander Posted June 16, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2010 There are no umbrellas to rent at Magens beach? What is the natural shade that is available? You can rent chairs, floats, non-motorized watersports etc. but not umbrellas. Natural shade is from the trees, there are lots of coconut trees and seagrape trees along the shore. Put your towel or chair under a tree. --Islander
