Aurora Borealis The Northern Lights

I just wanted to pass along some info, that I got on Cruise Critic several years ago.

We did a one way cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage, and we had a nite flight out of Anchorage. We read somewhere on CC that if you have any possibility of seeing the Northern Lights from your plane, you need the sit on the LEFT side of the plane. Well, we had seats on the right side, so, on check in, we requested seats on the left side. They accommodated us, and as hoped for, we were treated to over an hour of some of the most spectacular visions of the aurora borealis, imaginable. Even the pilot of the plane commented on how visible and active they were that night.

We traveled the last week in August, and yes the Northern Lights are hit and miss, but my point is, if anyone is flying out of Anchorage or points north, in later August, and in the dead of night, try to arrange your seating on the plane for the LEFT side, and you may be surprised at what you see out the window.

Cheers
