Aplmac Posted June 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2010 We are sailing Carnival Victory out of Barbados but would like to arrive a day or 2 prior and need a place to stay that is nice and convenient to the port. :) Take your pick. 3 hotels that spring to mind are right across the 2 mile arc that is Carlisle Bay with the Bridgetown Port at one end of the big curve and three possibilities at the other end. That puts you about 10-15 mins. taxi drive away from the start of your cruise! :) You might consider Hilton, Grand Barbados or Island Inn, depending on how much you want to spend. Not sure about rates or if they all have websites, but you might start to search on the internet and find out more? Nautilus is a fourth possibility, an inexpensive budget guest-house place on the bay, even nearer where my surgeon son-in-law stays when he comes up from Grenada to sail the regattas! It's clean, no frills, practical. So much depends on if you're a millionaire -or not! :D .
aeomom Posted June 17, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Nope, not a millionaire! Thank you for your quick response and for giving me a great place to start my search! We've never been to Barbados so I don't know the lay of the land and don't want to end up hours from the port!
underwayatlast Posted June 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2010 I stayed at the Blue Orchids in February, their were several pre-cruise couples staying there. Check out their web site or call 246 435-8057. You'll probably get a great deal since their at the discounted season. They have their own hotel taxi, but I'd flag down a taxi in front of the hotel, since they continously go by there and get a real cheap ride. Ask the price before you get in, 15. US is normal from there.
Aplmac Posted June 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2010 Nope, not a millionaire! Thank you for your quick response and for giving me a great place to start my search! We've never been to Barbados so I don't know the lay of the land and don't want to end up hours from the port! ===> That would be Crane Beach! Aw shucks...and here I was thinking I'd landed a live one. :D OK you're not loaded...in that case forget the Hilton. Nice but pricey! Grand Barbados prob. a bit less so.. but you should find Island Inn homely and cost-effective -it's bin there for decades! and well within walking distance of the Carlisle Bay beach where you might find yourself one day sharing the water with the local race horses who are often swum for exercise, right near there -the kinda thing you don't often see in other places! :D If you're cheap like Robbie (the sailing S-I-L I mentioned?) Nautilus will do well enough but you need to get busy with Google and start lookin! Even if none of these names pan out for you Barbados has many small hotels and guest houses to suit all bank accounts! Google shall reveal much more, trust me! Look for places with St.Michael addresses -that's the parish/county in which Bridgetown is situated. We've been twice on Victory: nice ship! Go to the CC Photo Gallery and see my many shots of the ship, inside and out! Here's a link to the Carnival section.. http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showgallery.php?cat=518 . Blue Orchid is right up the street from the very pretty Accra/Rockley beachwithin easy walking distance of the best beach on our South Coast.. a bit further out than those previously recommended, but yeah, if Blue Orchid sounds good, go for it! Problem is...would you swim in this stuff? :D -Rockley Bay! The ride from B.Orchid is about 20 mins. to the Port, given decent traffic. Local hotel rates are hot during winter season -- i.e. from Dec. 15th. to April 15th. Otherwise, rates are reasonable, if not less! ;) .
