OZ1 Posted June 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Looking for recommendations for restaurants downtown Coz. We are looking for a non-chain, cozy restaurant with great food, drink and ambiance for lunch. You know...the kind of place the locals would eat at. Rare crewsweeper Posted June 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Before the tourists chime in with recs for Panchos, try some of the recs on these threads. Brucer's links to Christi's list are excellent choices. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1059839&highlight=where+locals+eat has a good map. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=889440&highlight=where+locals+eat http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1036401&highlight=where+locals+eat
islandwoman Posted June 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2010 I'm just back from a week in Cozumel. We didn't go to restaurants for lunch much, but two that I can recommend from personal experience are: Sabores on Avenita 5 between Calle 3 and Calle 5 South; Mosaicoz at the corner of the main Plaza, Ave 5 and Calle 1 South. I don't know whether or not the locals eat there. Among other diners, I can't tell the difference between a local Mexican and a Mexican tourist, or between an American tourist and an American living in Mexico. But the prices are good and we liked the food. At Sabores, you can eat in the garden behind what looks like a house, but is actually the restaurant. The menu is only in Spanish, but the server speaks English. Mosaicoz has 2 for 1 frozen drinks. You can sit under an umbrella and watch the people go by. Lots of great places. Too many in fact.:( We had a fantastic meal at Casa Denis, but I will have to try another place on our next visit. La Choza will probably be the next stop. wednesday Posted June 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2010 We ate at Camilo's (which happens to be on that list) and it was fabulous! I thought it was a little pricey but my husband said that their coconut shrimp were hands down the best he had ever had and I had the shrimp with poblano cream and just can't say enough good things about them. Yuuuuummmmm!!! BTW it was on 5 avenida between calle 2 norte and calle 4 norte There are pics on my review http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1224700
