The colors are starting to change, so next weekend will definitely be a photo-centric one!

Just finished one of the gift boxes for the grandchildren. Our youngest one has become obsessed with tic-tac-toe and I dreamed up this no-lost-pieces design while sitting in traffic on the way home one evening. Fun way to practice joinery!

Of course, I had to photograph it!

There's a difference?? ;)

NOPE! It's just the only time I can actually keep a camera or two in my hands all day long and nobody fusses at me for it!

May experiment with a graduated ND filter tomorrow as I am not happy with some of the highlights being blown out... We shall see!

I am enjoying all your photos. I am a novice and am thinking of moving up from a P&S to a DSLR. Would you all mind posting what type of camera you are using when you post a photo if it isn't too much trouble. It might help those of us deliberating make a decision.

Thank you for sharing!

Whimsy, any of the big camera manufacturers (Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Samsung, and even Nikon) make great cameras. The big thing is to pick a 'camera system' that will grow with you. If you have a friend that has picked Canon, Sony or Nikon, it might be a good idea to get a camera so you can try out their lenses if they are so inclined to let you.

I really like Canon and with their interchangeable lens systems on DSLR's as I can chose to do many different types of photography just by adding a lens with the capability you want. That being said, zackiedawgs Sony DSLR shots are awe inspiringly sharp and beautiful.I have been playing around with DSLR's for around 2 years now, and still have much to learn.

I made the mistake of being obsessed with ZOOMS when I found out that I can do so much more with wide angle lenses (group shots and landscapes). A good 18-55 kit lens will get you a long ways. Learn it and then upgrade to whatever genre or genres that interest YOU!

Also take a look at these new mirrorless cameras such as the micro 4/3 rds or the Sony E-mount. Several folks on here (including myself) have the Sony NEX series and with that 16mm f 2.8 lens you can take some awesome shots (most of my Empire State Buildings shots were taken with this setup).

The biggest thing is to get out and SHOOT!

BTW that T2i is NICE!:)

Love the pictures of Rose Island in Newport and the HDR(?) of the sunset from the ship. Where are the others taken?

Thanks Judy! The sunset is not a HDR. It's straight out of the camera like the one below. The other photos were taken while driving the Fundy Trail in New Brunswick,as was the 2nd photo here.
