Procedure for having someone drop you off at the Port?

I'll be leaving out of Miami on Carnival's Triumph on April 30th. My son is picking me up at the airport the day before I leave on my cruise and will be taking me to the Port for my cruise. I haven't read anything about how one goes about dropping someone off at the Port. I can only assume that you aren't able to just have someone drive up and drop off your luggage and then let you walk into where one goes through security. Help! Of course maybe my son may have some sort of "special" authority . . . but who knows (he's a Coast Guard Helicopter pilot based at Air Station Miami).

Security is VERY high at this particular port, and they do not let you drop them off at the curb..you can park in term parking and wheel your stuff over..the sherrif's deputy who runs the flow of traffic right at the curb is not the nicest guy although he is doing his job..but every weekend when I am there I have seen him scream at people parked at the curb, and had an altercation once with a cab driver and that was ugly. The bag handlers/porters are not allowed to check your bags curbside, they too must wheel it to the parking lot for you to a designated ara then you can pull your car up. Menina

Everyone, buses, taxis and people being driven by friends or relatives to the port gets dropped off at the curb. You will have no problem getting dropped of at the curb with your luggage. You will have to stay with your luggage while the porters check it in (takes all of about 2 minutes). While that is going on, your son can park the car and meet you where he left you. Then he can escort you to check-in and stay with you until you board the ship.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. ;)

You most certainly can be dropped off at the curb at the port. We've done this many times and never had to park in the lot and wheel the bags over. Cabs, limos, buses and private cars drop people off all the time. When you enter the port area, you will have to present picture ID's for everyone in the car and state your reason for entering the port. We've done this numerous times after 9/11 with no problem.

Thank you for the replies and bless you Bequia . . . I am so happy to hear that my son will be able to drop me and my luggage off at the curb while he parks the car. I was hoping it would be like it is at the airports and makes me feel a lot better to know it will be . . .

I hope it works because I stand there for an hour every weekend to pick up my fiance/crewman and see that guy scream at least once at someone. I've been there 8 weeks and a row and haven't see one person escape his claws yet..so good luck! this is the way it is at the NCL terminal so maybe it's differnet at the carinval terminal
