Motor bike rental??

We will be sailing on the Zuiderdam this week with a stop in Nassau. We would like to rent a motor bike and explore the island away from Nassau, Paradise Island and crowds. Is there a rental close to the dock and is it safe to venture out onto the island roads?

(I posted this reply on the Bahamas board as well.)

We rented a moped last May in Nassau. Don't remember the name of the place, but it is across the street from Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, about a 15-20 minute walk from the port, just over the foot bridge and a few blocks down. There are shops and restaurants along the way. I searched for the one we rented from but didn't find it. I did come across Curtis Scooter Rental, which gives prices, location and phone number. Here's a link:

Driving is on the left and can be tricky in town, especially where there are rotaries, and traffic can be very heavy. We ventured outside of town and explored the island. Once on the main roads, it was less stressful and much more fun. I would recommend at least a 2-hour rental to give yourself enough time to explore outside of town.

Hope this info helps. Good luck, and have fun!!

My wife and I rented a scooter in Nassau last time we were there against all advice from Royal Caribbean and had a wonderful time once we got out of the city. It was a wild adventure....be careful with the rental bikes and inspect them closely before you get on and ride ...we got ours from one of the rental companies right in the terminal...it was about mid day and we had to go through several bike inspections before we got two with all the right equipment..left the City carefully and found a couple a fine "private" beaches for the two of us...a couple of great little roadside bars to sit out rainstorms. Watch out for the mini bus drivers...I think they scare scooter drivers for sport.

Leave lots of extra time for getting back...we have one scary event when we could not get one bike started and had visions of seeing the ship steam out without us!! Make sure you understand the process for getting help if you have a break down.

We will do it again...maybe on this Thursday morning as we are one the Z and sailing this Tuesday.
