Halifax Murphys

Has anyone booked boat tours with Murphys in Halifax? http://www.mtcw.ca/

 

I am bringing my in-laws on a cruise in July, and it will stop at Halifax for a day. I was looking into the whale watching, the fishing, or the harbour hopper tours. If anyone can share their experience and give some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated!

I live about 1 hour from Halifax, but have never done any of these tours, but I have seen the Harbour Hopper around the city, and in the Harbour.... It sure looks like fun!!!

 

Since you are travelling with your in-laws (and I am assuming they are "older") then I would suggest doing the Harbour Hopper, and then just walking the board-walk along the harbour... there is lots to see there, and that walk is one of my favorite things to do in Halifax. - Also - if the in-laws are up to it, a walk up the hill to the citidel is also very nice. The citidel is the original fortress that was built in Halifax to protect the city MANY years ago.

 

If the walk up the hill seems too daunting, just stick with the board walk, it is all at pier level, all on one level (no stairs or hills) and you can walk all the way from where your ship will dock - right to the Halifax Casino (if you are into that kind of thing). There are restaurants, boats, museums (the Museum of the Atlantic is there on the board-walk) - lots to see and do.

Halifax isn't known for whale watching - I've encountered many people who've gone on these tours and didn't see any whales (but did end up sea sick :(). Same with deep sea fishing - while they did catch some fish, many people often end up seasick due to the swells and how slow the boats move.

 

I would also recommend the Harbour Hopper. It will give you a nice overview of the city while still allowing you to get some great views from the water as well. And since it's not an all day tour you will still have time to explore the waterfront as well.

Murphy's is great for food as well. I harbour hopped over there for a meal and hopped back so had the benefit of both.

I agree with the others. Take the Harbour Hopper, tour the boardwalk including the Maritime Museum and if you wish, take a taxi up Citadel Hill. You will get a peek on the HH.

 

Murphy's operate many cruises on the waterfront and have been well established for years. If you do a search on Trip Advisor you may get more information.

Is the Harbour Hopper the same as the Pink hop on and off (sounds like this is a bus), if not where can I find info on the Harbour Hopper.

Almost everything you're going to want to walk to is on the board walk at the harbour's edge.... everything else, you will most likely want to catch a cab.

 

From the harbour's edge to just about everywhere else is an uphill hike!

Here is a walking tour. You would want to change the order of things and start where you are docked near Pier 21. Just keep going along the waterfront and if you want to go inland a bit I think the instructions are clear. You will find us friendly so just stop someone and ask if you are lost.
