Advice regarding dress code

We know it is all Elegant Casual, but does anyone know what is customary over Christmas and New Year? Does anyone dress "up"?

The Nauticas' Capetown to Singapore cruise will undoubtedly be the dressiest of the three cruises being offered over the Holidays.

It is a longer cruise, a new (for Oceania) itinerary, and offers a significant number of sea days.

Africa and Southeast Asia, are usually VERY casual, however, when there are more sea days, some people (and you know who you are) get more ambitious in the clothing department. There is also something about being aboard for a month which makes packing a larger wardrobe seem more reasonable.

The Insignia will be in South America, where the humidity, heat and rain will discourage dressing up, although there will be some VERY DRESSY options ashore.

The Regatta, although she is Island Hopping in the Caribbean over the Holidays is at sea on New Years Eve AND on January 1st, so that may indeed lead to an upsurge in apparel for that ship.

What you will probably see on Christmas is more Red and/or Green than usual, and some of the ladies may bring a special Vavoom dress for New Years.

The men, however, tend to remain at the same sartorial level, regardless of the occasion, so don't go overboard ;)

We were on the Caribbean cruise last year at holiday time and I didn't notice any "over the top" outfits. It seemed to be business as usual for most of the pax. I am anticipating the same for the Capetown to Singapore cruise this year. Yes - we do run away at Christmas. It simplifies things for us.

On our SA cruise 2008/2009, BA to Valpo, no one that I saw really "dressed up". As for myself, I couldn't care what other men wore. I felt comfortable with a pair of dress pants and and short sleeve sweater shirt.

You can if you want to. Although some did on our 2009 / 2010 Caribbean Christmas and New Year sailing, the vast majority (my wife and I included) did not.

Anyone been on the O for Thanksgiving dinner? Would folks be a bit more dressed up then? Wonder if we'll be treated to a traditional turkey dinner?

They will almost definately have Turkey as one of the entrees in the Grand Dining Room, but don't look for a ship wide celebration.

The fact that it is Thanksgiving, for example, probably wont be printed on the Menues, or even listed in the daily program.

The great majority of the service people on the ship are not Americans, after all, and Thanksgiving is one of those Holidays which is does not seem to translate well into other cultures.
