Dajlan2 Posted March 14, 2005 Author #76 Share Posted March 14, 2005 St. Thomas - fancy a bushwacker as suggested by Chuck & Phyllis! Our voyage information booklet has the St Juan excursions so I don't know what is on offer. St. Kittts- probably do the excursion on the sugar train St. Maarten - visited last year and took a taxi to Marigot. I think we'll either do a sight seeing tour or stay in Philipsburg. Tickets arrived today. Our flight from London arrives at JFK at 10.15am so we should be able to meet up as planned. Andrea
cruiservictor Posted March 15, 2005 #77 Share Posted March 15, 2005 We, too, are looking at the train ride in St Kitts, especially if the earlier poster was correct and we dock there. Not sure if we will even get off the ship in the other 2 ports, as we have been to both and are not big fans of tendering.
Baron2e Posted March 15, 2005 #78 Share Posted March 15, 2005 I do not plan on getting off the ship. John and Eileen may venture forth. I plan to do a lot of fishing off the fan tail. Cunard is one of the few lines to encourage this and often the Captain presents the trophy. Trying to decide what tackle to bring. I expect some one to bring me a bushwacker in a travel mug. BTW, If we can time it right (don't know), we'll bring you the Bushwacker. Or teach a bartender on the ship to make one.:) Chuck

travelgals Posted March 16, 2005 #83 Share Posted March 16, 2005 Baron2E, I will be on the ship on the 25th and will wave from afar to the Chart Club. I learned today that I work with a woman who will be on 4/2 and I will tell her about this board. I think it's pretty funny that I arranged to have drinks this Thursday at Chelsea Piers, so I can watch her sail the week before our trip.
Baron2e Posted March 16, 2005 #84 Share Posted March 16, 2005 April 8th will be a grand and glorous day at sea. It is fittingly a formal night and we may thus join in to celebrate the royal nuptuals. We must lift our Bushwackers high and toast Charles and the fair Camilla. This may be the perfect night for Chuck to unvail his new formal slippers. We shall rely on Andrea and Barbara to provide the toast and a full briefing on protocol. Bill

Bill I'm breaking in those slippers on Sunday. :) Wedding? I must have missed a post or something. Tell us more about fishing off the ship. That sounds fun. Baron2e Posted March 16, 2005 #86 Share Posted March 16, 2005 The Tuohey family comes from a long line of trollers. It started with Seamus Tuohey who accompanied Madeline Astor and her husband John Jacob on the Titanic. Alas only Madeline and the atlantic cod caught by Seamus survived. That cod today sits mounted over my fireplace. Tonight I sit in cold New Jersey with Beefeater Martini in hand and think about Seamus the sea and the days ahead. I trust your slippers will fly across the dance floor this weekend. You can tell I ready to sail. Bill
Dajlan2 Posted March 18, 2005 Author #87 Share Posted March 18, 2005 I gather from another thread that the Commodore Club doesn't start serving drinks until 4pm. They've switched to the Chart Room instead. Shall we change the venue?
Chuck & Phyllis Posted March 18, 2005 #88 Share Posted March 18, 2005 Doesn't matter to us. We probably wouldn't have a drink at that time anyway. There's unpacking, the boat drill, early seating, etc. We'll meet wherever though.

Baron2e Posted March 21, 2005 #90 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Andrea The time is finally arriving. Unless you feel otherwise Iam inclined to stay in the Commodores Club. It will give us plenty of space and a super view of New York looking over the bow. I assume as Chuck noted it will be quick hellos and than most folks will have chores and errands to do on board. Today, Monday, is grey and cold in New York. I hope the weather improves or it will be very brisk out on deck when we sail. Have a safe flight over the pond. Bill and Eileen P.S. Mary returns this Friday. Still may go down to see her sail at 5pm.
Dajlan2 Posted March 21, 2005 Author #91 Share Posted March 21, 2005 That's fine. By the way, our cruise is full according to UK Cunard today. I note from another thread that last week's itinery had 4 casual nights and not 2 as we thought. That's messed up my plans for what to bring! Baron2e Posted March 24, 2005 #93 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Ahoy Mates Mary arrives back in NYC tomorrow, Friday and sails at 5pm. When she returns on April 2nd it is to pick you up. At long last. Day of sailing weather forecast to be 53 degrees with 60% chance of showers. Spring is slow to arrive in New York this year. That first day will be chilly on deck and I imagine Sunday at sea will not be very hot. Sweaters and jackets seem like a good idea. Chuck & Phyllis Posted March 24, 2005 #94 Share Posted March 24, 2005 I get into the office about 6:30 AM. The first time I saw the funnel over the buildings as I just missed her passing my narrow river view. Last week, I totally missed her. Maybe tomorrow I'll get lucky. cruiservictor Posted March 25, 2005 #95 Share Posted March 25, 2005 I see on the Kroooz-cam web site that she is in. Chuck, did you get lucky?
Chuck & Phyllis Posted March 25, 2005 #96 Share Posted March 25, 2005 No luck again. I'm down around 14th & 8th and have a narrow Hudson view from the 12th floor. She must pass by quite early because I turned on the cam at 6:55 and she was docked already. I'll have a real close up view of her next week though.:D
Chuck & Phyllis Posted March 25, 2005 #97 Share Posted March 25, 2005 Looking at the weather in the Atlantic, it looks like those who left today will have showers Saturday and Sunday on the way down. However, it will be sunny with the temp in the mid 80's all 3 days they're down there. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather throughout our sailing. jeffs55 Posted March 26, 2005 #99 Share Posted March 26, 2005 I tried to get a picture again from 450 w 33rd but she didn't sail until after seven PM and it was dark. Oh well, I'll get lots of pictures next week.
Baron2e Posted March 27, 2005 #100 Share Posted March 27, 2005 Had dinner last night accross the river from the pier. Mary sailed at 7:23pm still do not know why the long delay. What a sight with her lights all a glow against the New York skyline. Very beautiful and memorable. Even inside the noisy restaurant her departing whistles were a thrill. One of her horns is from the original Queen Mary. Bill
