AndyTheMan Posted July 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2010 If anyone wants to read a good book related to this topic, try to find a book called "in the heart of the sea' by a guy called Nathan Philbrick (I think thats how you spell it. Many do not know that Moby Dick was actually based on a true story of a 1800's whaling ship from Nantucket that was wrecked by a whale about 500 miles west of Tahiti. aroun 30 sailors went into small whaling boats and sailed east for around 3-4 month towards Chile - to survive they began to eat each other as they perished. Only half a dozen survived - some were loeft on a deserted island part way across the sea - their bodies discovered a few years later. "In the heart of hte sea" tells the true story of this event - I read it on my last cruise. Good book for those that like sea related stories - its non-fiction though! Vader1111 Posted July 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2010 There have been recorded instances of whales jumping on boats, as depicted in that photo... but that photo is almost certainly a fake, courtesy of photoshop.
CruiseW827 Posted July 23, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2010 Actually that photo was taken from the whale watching vessel that was nearby when the incident happened. As well as the photo of the whale on the boat.
