Snorkeling off Cayo Levantado?

We have a full day stop at Cayo Levantado in December on our Oceania cruise. They are offering a couple of excursions for sailing, one of which includes some snorkeling time. Has anyone snorkeled in this area? We are beginning snorkelers and so need fairly calm waters. Are there any places to snorkel just from the beach?
