Plummy Posted July 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2010 Hi We are booked on the Navigator on the 25th May 2011 from Vancouver. This will put us at Tracy Arm on the 28th May and it looks as if this might be a day or two early to be able to take the catamaran trip from the ship. My question is for anybody that did the same trip this year, 2010, was the catamaran to explore further into Tracy Arm running? I appreciate that ice may be a problem on the day but in principle did it start before the 1st June? Many thanks Rachel
Pookie2 Posted July 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2010 We were at Tracy Arm on May 31, 2010 on the Navigator. The Navigator did the trip into the fjord - absolutely beautiful. We also saw the catamaran doing the trip. It will all depend on the ice conditions as to whether you will be able to venture as far in as we did. Travelcat2 Posted July 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2010 We were also on that cruise. IMO, going into Tracy Arm while on the Navigator is the absolute best way to go. As Pookie2 mentioned, how far into Tracy Arm you can venture depends upon the ice. It is an amazing area.
OrpingtonT Posted July 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2010 Four years ago, on 26 May we sailed from Vancouver and did the Tracy Arm excursion on the catamaran. We navigated the ice and got close to the glaciers. Saw plenty of wildlife and had a marvellous experience. Hope the weather is OK for you too. Plummy Posted July 25, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted July 25, 2010 Thanks everyone, that sounds promising. I will keep my fingers crossed that the ice doesn't get in the way too much. Rachel
Rare RachelG Posted July 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 26, 2010 We were able to do the excursion on about May 26 a few years ago as well. It was the first trip of the season.
