Advice on what to do in St. Johns, NB. CANADA

Hello everyone. My wife and three kids(10,6,3) will be traveling on the Glory this Thursday to St. Johns, NB, Canada. I have a few questions, if you don't mind.

1) Any recommendations on what to do in Canada?

2) We opted(as per my wife) for the free style seating. I have been reading and this seems like it might be a bad move.

3) Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I cant give you any advice re Saint John NB. I have been to NB just not to Saint John. I hear some good things though from other cruisers on the Ports of Call board. Go to the Ports of Call board here on Cruise Critic, then to Canada and Saint John NB, ( not to be confused with St. Johns NL) The Glory goes to Saint John NB. There will be lots of info and advice there. Have a great cruise!:)

This is probably one of the best threads on what to do in Saint John: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1147722.

We've visited three times with our sons; first time we did our own walking tour and the one-hour horse-drawn trolley ride. Had lunch at Steamer's, across the street from the pier (lobster bisque was great). Second time we walked along the Harbour Passage, then stopped at Grannan's at Market Square for lunch (very good fried clams). Third time we walked (yes, we walked) to the Reversing Falls, then back to Grannan's for lunch. We'll be visiting again on September 4, and this time we've booked one of the Fundy Coast excursions through Carnival. It's just a morning excursion, so when we return we'll find lunch, then walk around.

We rented bikes in St Johns and rode to the reversing falls-that would be difficult for you family with small children. We did eat at a great restaurant called Billy's-best meal of the week in our opinion. Three blocks up the hill from Loyalist Plaza across from a park and next to the city market.

We had anytime dining and it work great for the 2 of us. Just be prepared to give your state room number to the hostess and you will get a pager to take with you that will let you know when a table is ready. We ate usually between 7-8 pm. The later we went the less waiting time. It was just two of us, so we just went to the casino bar and had a pre dinner cocktail. The pager works anywhere on the ship.

Check out the port of call boards for Acey-he gives great advice on St. John's. Have fun. We had very hot weather 7/17-7/22
