gracee Posted August 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2010 We will be visiting St John in October. Haven't seen much on where to eat. Locals and visitors, do you have any recommendations?
nancygp Posted August 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2010 I recommend Billy's Seafood company. I ate there in 2006 and plan to go back in October. Nancy

LindaKE Posted August 1, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2010 We went to Steamers. It's about 1-2 blocks from the port (turn left when you exit) on the opposite side of the street. There's lots of helpful info at this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1147722&highlight=john It's where we found recommendations for restaurnts and answers to other questions.. Acey Posted August 1, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2010 We will be visiting St John in October. Haven't seen much on where to eat. Locals and visitors, do you have any recommendations? If you like to dine in a quintessential historic building that Saint John is famous for, try: Market Square North Market Wharf (Boardwalk) 5 Restaurants http://www.marketsquaresj.com/dining.php Billy's Seafood http://www.billysseafood.com/ Church Street Steak House and Churchill's Pub http://www.grannanhospitalitygroup.com/churchst/ http://www.grannanhospitalitygroup.com/churchillpub/ Thandi http://www.singhdining.com/Thandi/Tabout_page.htm Opera Bistro http://www.operabistro.com/operabistro/ Beatty and the Beastro - Admiral Beatty Building (may be hard to get a table) http://www.restaurantica.com/nb/saint-john/beatty-and-the-bistro/23079654/pictures/ Urban Deli http://urbandeli.ca/ Relish Gourmet Burgers (opening soon) Or, have lunch in the famously historic Saint John City Market: Jeremiah's Deli Sister's Italian Food Kim's Korean Lord's Lobster Sagrati's Slocum and Ferris The Wild Carrot Cafe The Infusion Tea Room Most have a lunch menu. I'm familiar with all of them if you have a question.

gracee Posted August 2, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Acey--thanks! That's quite complete. Which one would you take friends, one who loves fish one who loves meat?
Acey Posted August 2, 2010 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Acey--thanks! That's quite complete.Which one would you take friends, one who loves fish one who loves meat? By the way - at lunchtime I had a lovely lunch menu pad thai on the boardwalk under an umbrella for $7 at Lemongrass :) very good! So when I think of seafood I immediately think of Billy's Seafood (consistently rated #1 for seafood by locals in an annual publication). When I think of meat I immediately think of Church Street Steak House / Churchill's Pub (#1 Burger in City). Billy's also has turf dishes, and Church St. has also surf dishes. So.... if it were me and I needed to satisfy both desires I would go to Church Street Steakhouse. Be sure to sit in the upper floors of the steakhouse and ask for the pub menu from Churchill's pub below - the "Rich Man's Fishn' Chips" from pub menu is recommended. This is Benedict Arnold's stomping ground after he left the USA. Located 3 blocks from cruise terminal on Grannan Street http://www.grannanhospitalitygroup.com/churchst/ Pub Menu: http://www.grannanhospitalitygroup.com/cms/uploaded_files/2X6ITH0TBI/44/docs/pubmenu08_layout%201(1).pdf Steakhouse Menu: http://www.grannanhospitalitygroup.com/cms/uploaded_files/2X6ITH0TBI/45/docs/churchprint09.pdf

gracee Posted August 3, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted August 3, 2010 Thanks Acey! My husband is a hamburger lover so Church Street Steak House is #1 choice. The fish and chips sounds perfect to me! Will report back when we return. Thanks so much for your help.
